I think that considering over 2/3 of the people agree, they are athletes. Nuff said!

Slightly off topic, but this reminds me of how people say horse riders aren't althetes cause the horses do all the work. Think again...riding horses can be exhausting. I used to have legs of steel when I rode more often. It's a great cardio workout too cause I'm always out if breath after some loping.

    The better coast
No poker is far from an athlete. Golf, as i said before, is more of a sport than driving a car  The force is human force in golf.

    Very true
I would say bull fighting is much more of a sport than hunting, but since the bull will always die, its not much of a sport.

So my constant task of typing is athletic?

My vote is no :p Proof \/ He may be "skilled" but far from athletic

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-32xBPbhVmw

Where is the proof of the 10lb loss? I love loosing water weight as well ;) The "drivers go though so much" card does not prove anything athletic. Every sport has its up sides and down sides, but athletic sports don't have outside forces (that are not human generated) as the main contributor. Real athletic sports are solely human driven. Yes you have to be "fit" to with stand the conditions but there is not an athletic contribution to the final product.

I would agree it is a physical activity :notsure:

True, but being a professional athlete requires certain prerequisites to for their given sport to be considered an athletic event

Mountain climbing, yes. Game hunting? depends...if your a camping out in a tent waiting for game to come to you, no that is not athletic. I the only reason I would call game hunting athletic is because of people who actually stalk their prey. Guns change the game completely. A sport is a competition and if you blind since an animal with a bullet that is not competing.
Me to, the comment that sparked this comment is rather retarded. I know countless wemon that kick my but a cycling, that would rip my face off in boxing and out lift me in the gym

    You're retarded. This \/

I never said they just sit and gaze at the view. every sport taxes the body somehow, and I never said it was easy to drive a race car but relatively speaking, against compared to the professional athletes, drivers fall far below that athleticism. As I said before, take out the power steering pumps and maybe ill change my mind. As long as technology is the sold determinate of the sport, its not athletic.

Doesn't mean that their sport makes them an athlete.

    .
IMO i think it'd be a higher honor to be called a driver and/or rider than an athlete.
You can speak to thier athletic abilities as to how that may enhance thier skills and so forth, but as i see it anyone can be an "athlete", not everyone can be a 'driver/rider'.

Those making the announcments may not feel that way?

As I mentioned, Nascar has had a different set of rules for rain. Your analogy of a wet ball slipping from a hand in baseball can kill someone is negated by the fact that a wet tire could slip on pavement just as easily and kill someone. Be it Formula1 or Nascar. Simple fact is that years ago Nascar mandated a single tire for the cars. Different rules.
