So the valves that are on my current tires have real skinny stems and I cant air them up... Does anyone know what these skinny vales are called?

Also I need a new rear tire. Currently they are tubeless. I have brand new tires on my old bike that I would like to switch over if I can. Is there anything special that I would have to do to them? They are Kenda excavators

youve got presta valves, i like them better, wayyy easier to air down. you probably need to get an adapter from a bike shop, some pumps come with them though or are compatible with both schrader and presta

tires might work, i think its possible but i dont think they will be easy to set up or work well unless they are tubeless compatible. if you are already set up they most likely will work. only thing you will need is rim tape, valves and sealant. i think that should be it though, someone correct me if im wrong

    Yeah.
You can always put a tube in there, you don't have to stay tubeless. If the tires you want to swap on are not "UST" or "tubeless ready," you could go the Stan's route but may or may not work very well.

So if I went back to a tube on the rear I would just remove the presta valve and change the tire like normal?

    Yeah.
You would have to remove the presta stem, which should just have a knurled circular nut holding it on to the rim (there may be some dried tubeless sealant in the tire making it stick).

You will want to get a tube with a presta valve, which shouldn't be hard to find (wherever you get an adapter or pump that supports presta valves should also sell presta tubes). If you try to go with a Schrader valve tube, you may have to drill the hole out to get it to fit, which would kill the rim for any future tubeless setup.

Just put the tube and tire on like normal -- my bike came with tubeless ready rims, but they had tubed tires on it. I rode those until they wore out and switched to tubeless. The tires are rims are similar, but tubeless tires usually have tighter tolerances and fit a lot tighter.

Just as a note, to air up through a presta valve, there is a tiny knurled pin in the middle of the valve that should be loosened to put air in, and then tightened back down.

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
The only time I think you'd want to go with a tube again is if you pop your tubeless set up on a trail and carry a spare tube. ;)

I've run tubeless for the last 3 years, and it sure beats the hell out of getting pinch flats. Never popped once.

I've never had problems with running non-ust tires on ust wheels using Stans. Just make sure you give enough time to let the sealant cure.

If you're looking for a pump for presta, I recommend any $35-$40 BLACKBURN pump w/an "All Head" that can pump both presta and Schrader w/o adapters.

Raced a Jet9 for a few seasons, one of the best bikes I've ever owned....until it broke, :(

Niner customer service was great with a replacement rear triangle.

My best friend rode his RIP9 with me across CO and UT during out San Juan Hut trip and he absolutely loved it, never had a problem.

I tried to put a tube back in but I dont think my rims will accept the wider schrader valve. the hole was too small...

I was having a hard time getting the damn bead to seal...Im not sure If it ever did since I never heard the "pop". also I couldnt get soapy bubbles to go away. will the sealant basically glue to tire to the rim or what?

    Yeah.
You need a tube with a presta valve, they are pretty standard these days.

A non-tubeless tire should seat pretty easily, but it all depends on the tire. Pump it up to the max, bounce it around. There is usually a line on the tire around the edge of the rim that should tell you if it is seated. If it isn't, it probably will on your first ride.

I am not sure what sealant you are using, but generally it is used to fill any pinholes in the tire and around the seal. It is also supposed to fill any small punctures. It does not glue the tire to the rim.

    As Rich said above me,

It sounds like you'll need a tube with a presta fitting.

As for sealing it, it will take a few tries---the sealant isn't suppose to act like a bonding "glue" but just to make sure every little hole is covered.

Once you get the tire bead to lock in/"pop" apply the sealant and re-check for leaks. Once you know there isnt anymore leaks, let it cure. I do this by resting the wheel on top of a bucket or garbage can and flipping it on each side every 20mins for 1-2 hours(or whatever your OCD thinks is enough time lol).

IF ALL ELSE FAILS....just take it to your LBS to have them mount it for you. They shouldn't charge you more than $5-$10 if anything at all.
