Yeah. I'd do that. I'd be inclined to try someplace else though-someplace that could be light painted maybe or had some more dramatic features. Carrizo is mostly rolling hills. Not many oaks either.

    Not enough.
Noticed a carnival was in town so I figured it would be a good time to dust off the nikon and try some long exposure for the first time... Input?

what discount code are you using?

I'd wait unless you're pressed for one. Seems they could go lower after the hype. Although they may disappear for a bit as everyone knows now is the time to get em.

nah not stupid, there are different settings on the go pros that you can choose from for shooting stills, r1-r5, r1 shoots at 720p and r5 is 1080 full hd, i like to shoot stills with in r5 and video in r3( shoots @ 60 fps) the little things are really fun to play around with!

Tested out my lens today. I need to mess with my settings and shutter speed still, I was really slow...We were in the boat and I whipped out my camera just as a couple of groups of ducks were getting up..

Please give me some feedback on what I can do to make them turn out better next time!

looks like you need to bump up your ISO to increase your shutter speed if you wanted to take pics of them in flight.

do you know what setting you were at while taking those?

The second shot is the better of the three. The birds stand out against the background (I like the color contrast) and their bodies and heads are in focus-I like the motion blur at the wings. With a crop that featured the middle duck, the first shot would look good too.

All of them are a little soft-that means out of focus but not by much. You can fix that by opening up a little and increasing the shutter speed or by increasing the ISO and bumping the shutter.

You'll have a better looking picture if the birds are coming at you or are parallel to you. The other 'look' that works pretty well is flying off into the sunset. You also need to watch your backgrounds. The first and third are pretty dark-here you can over expose by one or two thirds and setting up for a shallow depth of field. If you do the latter, you will want to watch your focus (head/eyes) point since the Depth Of Field will be shallow.

I did the same thing today!! I'm bout to upload mine right now.

It's super hard shooting them no doubt, you did good though, and I agree with the above comments, higher ISO and faster SS.

Pope - not bad, but pretty basic shots. your exposure is kind of all over the place within a stop. looks like you were shooting in the manual mode, hence why your shots look varied exposure wise. was there cloud cover?

on img 324. your exif data shows that you shot at 1/250s at 300mm. its decently sharp, but a general rule of thumb is that your lowest shutter speed should equal your focal length that you are using. fortunately, in this image, there is no action.

on img 308, the blurriness is the result of having your shutter speed too close to your focal length. if you had a faster shutter speed, that duck would be more crisp/sharp.

also you are on a crop sensor, so you will also have to account for the crop factor
