    Hey guys:

First off, I'm a new member to TW. I am pretty blown-away with how huge of a forum this is, and am grateful for all of the endless information that can be found throughout this forum.

Anyhow; I'm in the market for a new Taco, and am seeking any advise, recommendations, articles, or tricks to obtaining the absolute BEST price for one...

I'm looking for a 2012/2013 Double Cab, TRD Sport Package, V6, Manual, in the Magnetic Gray Metallic. (I'm located in Northern Maryland, if it matters)

I spoke to a salesman at one of the 5-6 Toyota dealerships within an hour from me, and he searched all Toyota dealerships within a 5-state radius to find there are none out there that match what I want. However, he said THEIR DEALERSHIP is actually expecting an exact match to what I want, in about 3 weeks. So, I'm trying to find a way to get the absolute BEST price for this thing. I figured I'd start by trying to get, on print, the best price that this salesman says he can do. Then, take that to another Toyota dealership, and ask them if they can beat the price: get THEIR better price on print, and so on and so forth (within the multiple dealerships in my area).

So, I asked this particular salesman if he could e-mail me the best price he can do on the truck, and he said he could e-mail me photos of the window stickers. This certainly isn't going to help me with my original thought (above).

I'm trying to ask around, to friends and co-workers to see if there are any connections or if anyone can really get me a great deal on one through any of the Yota' dealerships in the area: I'm still awaiting some responses.

What's my next best step from here? I am planning on putting down about $10k-$15k cash and financing the remainder.

I was looking into the Limited, but I can't justify the price for the few differences. I also really want the Baja wheels, but from the sounds of it, there's no way I'd ever be able to have a set thrown-in, since Toyota puts a limit to sales with them--seems like you have to have a Baja VIN in order to even order ONE wheel! So negotiating with a dealership to have them swap wheels almost seems unreasonable too.

If you got a GREAT deal on your new Tacoma, please share what you did and the process that worked for YOU!

    Thanks in advance...

Number one - You have to be more than willing to walk away from the deal if you're getting dicked around, and you will get dicked around - it's a dealership, it's their job to F you over.

2 - Make a deal for the total price, not what your payments are going to be.

C - Don't talk about how much money your are putting down until you hit the finance dept.

4 - Act skeptical, don't let them know how interested you are.

Also - if it's crappy weather outside, that's the best day to buy a car - they have less customers - but if you can go at the end of the month, that's when their willing to give the best deals if they haven't met their sales quota.

    Good Luck!

    Welcome,
You could get a cheaper price for the 12 rather than the 13 since they are just trying to get rid of them so can start with that. but because its a 12 there is limited stock on them so it might not have everything you want.

I got a good deal from an online source, my dad got it through his work or something, but the online quote was for ~3K under the sticker price but they honored it since it was for their place.

Another huge key is just being able to say no and walk away (even if its a somewhat good deal if you think you can get better). Most salesmen will come back with something to "sweeten" even if they dont offer a lower price, like window tint, roof rack, Etc.

Unfortunately, there is a specific one you want. Advantage them.

I mean, I would really prefer the Gray, but I don't mind the Black or Blue either. I really don't mind any of the colors, it's just if I am spending $30k, I'd like to get what I want.

So, when I build the Taco on Toyota's website, it says MSRP is $31,500. What are 2013s going for?

What dollar amount would be good to agree upon closing a deal?

Go to R&H or Russel Toyota on the west side of the Baltimore beltway. Honestly I say fuck R&H for after the sale customer service, but they basically sold me a special prder vehicle at the same price as if wete an advertised on the lot price.

FYI, I bought a 6 speeef in Baltimore, a rare occurrence from my 10+ dealer experience. It was an 80 day wait though before I took delivery.

I had a lot of success going through the internet sales department. I was in the same boat because I wanted a specific truck (DCSB V6 4x4 TRD Off-Road in black) so I just sent a quick email to them. I got a reply within the hour saying that they had the exact model I was looking for, coming in 5 weeks. He also beat the previous dealer's "rock bottom" price by $800 without any haggling. I did make a counter-offer for another $200 off or some extras thrown in but he plainly said "I wish I could negotiate, that's the best I can do". This was nearly $4k below MSRP. :D

My advice: send the quick email to several dealerships in your area - and even some high volume dealers outside your area (e.g. Denver). Use those prices as leverage when you go into a local dealership, ask them to match it.

Here is what I did for my last two purchases and it worked great.

Send all the dealers in your area a fax with what you want and then ask them what price they can give it to you for. Some will send you the sticker price but there are a few who will go down a little and then there is one, two if you're lucky who really want your business.

Wait until you get them all back and then when you decide which one is the best deal make sure they have a signature on the fax. A little trick they like to use is sending you a price with no signature and then they get you to come in and then tell you they made a mistake and give you a new price.

The best time to do this is in the middle of the month. Some dealers have a quota they may need by the end of the month and this may give you the upper hand (only a little) if a dealer is low on his/her quota. He/she may be willing to bend a little more.

The best part of this is you never have to talk to a dealer until you are ready to purchase. Try it because it works for me every time. I always get way more off than talking to them myself.

Good luck and I hope this works for you if you try it like it did for me.

OP, you're lucky you have more than one dealer. Here in Honolulu, we got one, and there's very little haggling you can do. Fortunately, a good friend of mine is the pricing manager and I've been able to get decent pricing, but without the fun of negotiating.

Also, forgot to add. there is no need to "shop around" in this area as you already identified the dealers that you will go with. Presumptuous sure, and you CAN shop around, but you'll most likely come right back to R&H or Thompson in the end because they will be the best deal. I made the mistake of visiting them last and was frustrated with all the smaller dealers trying to get top dollar. Thompson and R&H are in the business of getting as many Toyota's on the roads to get a regional bonus, not nickle and diming each sale.

R&H/Russel Toyota, Thompson Toyota, and to a lesser extent Darkars (Eastern Ave in Baltimore/Essex) are the only dealers that will haggle to a competitive price. R&H and Russel are the same family/same prices and list theirs $3K below MSRP (you can still haggle off of that BTW). Thompson does its best to compete with those two but comes in higher usually, still advertises at $2-$3K under MSRP on the website..

I dealt with ALL of the dealers in the Baltimore/Annapolis (including Bowie) area and finally went with R&H after a 6 month + search. I went in and negotiated as if the car was on the lot based on the prices they advertised online. Then, had them order the exact truck I want.

    1. Get the truck you want with everything you want on it. It's brand new, there will be more!

    2. Start the negotiations at invoice price. google invoice price for new car.

    3. get price from local dealer absolute bottom dollar today! Leave/hang up with dealer.

    4. call other dealerships with in (whatever distance you feel comfortable driving) tell them the price you were quoted. EX. dealer 1. quoted 26,500. Tell dealer 2. 26,000 with bed mat, seat covers, running boards, oil changes for life, free puppy, supercharger, whatever. See what they will do and that quote from dealer 2 will now be the standard for other dealers to beat unless of course dealer 1 was a better deal. |
Keep calling around until you find that bottom dollar or other dealers say they cannot beat it.
DO NOT tell them about trade in or money down until the deal is made!!!!

    5. Make deal, talk to finace (don't fall for half the shit they sell you) Going into the car buying process with a pre approved loan is much better than finace screwing you over.

This process saved me a ton of money when I bought my truck. Hope it works for you.

The FAX idea is an outstanding idea! Make sure the signature comes with it though. Matter of fact if you do have to travel to get your new truck, I would make them send a fax with signature, copy of sticker, and an approval for that deal/price.

Get a job at the dealership.
We only have one dealership that sells Toyotas here, so its hard to shop around  The salesman get to buy one new car a year, and they get it below the invoice price (I forget how much) drive it a year, then sell it and make a profit. I bought two new Toyotas with cash within a few months, so I made pretty good friends with the salesman.

Well: So far, I've been offered by R&H $31,4XX ON the road.

Darcars quoted me $30,500, but I really feel like this may be some sort of scam. A lot of dealerships are telling me they don't understand HOW they can get the price that low. They recommended me buy it from there, if the price is accurate from what they tell me.

Nice. Darkars seems to sell a lot of trucks down in the capital beltway. The dealer on Eastern is kind of just a little satellite office of the big one down south. That may be a factor in the cheaper price in that they simply move more cars.

On the road includes TTL, delivery, etc? go with Darkars if that's an actual bottom line price written on a sales ticket. That's $400 cheaper than my off road Access Cab R&H sold me last year.

I spoke to the Sales Manager, Abdul, who said, "What price do we need to sell in order to get your business? I want your business as a customer..." I tried for lower, but he wouldn't really budge past $30,500. I asked if he could send a confirmation via e-mail or fax, and he said he had a salesman right next to him, Kay Wu, and Kay would send me an e-mail. Sure enough, Kay sent me an e-mail, "Selling price : $28252.83 plus $340 tag, $200 processing fee, and $1707.17 tax. Total on the road $30500."

I called him and asked him if this was the absolute OUT THE DOOR/ON THE ROAD PRICE, and he said, "If that's the price you and Abdul agreed upon, that's the final price." He said the destination charge was included with the Selling price. I REALLY do not want to drive all the way down there, only to find I either get screwed with the On the Road price (and they add crap on top of it), or if the financing department screws me somehow with jacked APR. Not that I'd be at ALL afraid to walk out, but more so the fact that I'd drive that far, for just a waste of time.

I'm going to call my friend that works at R&H Toyota today, and see if he can touch the $30,500, or even come close. At least I know HE is telling me the truth with all of the figures and charges. If he can come close to the $30,500, I think I'll stick with R&H.

And, BTW Dunham, Mike said he is pretty sure he remembers you... Thanks for recommending me check out R&H! :D

Nice. Darkars sounds like the deal. Get a pre approval letter and you'll know APRs before you step in. Or you can always go with TFS and shop around/refinance at your bank within 30 days. If TFS tries to screw you say F it, it's only temporary and you can refinance after, no effects felt.

Keep your cards close to your chest and get everything set out for the sale before discussing down payment. In other words you already agreed on price and signed with sales, they're out washing it to deliver, then While you are sitting with the finance manager you tell that person how much you are putting down. You should be able to get the 2.9 APR from TFS which I think is the lowest for a tacoma in our region.

Mike better remember me. I was a pain in the ass to that dealer, he was my third salesman and made good on what the other two screwed up. I bought him a 6 pack the day I took delivery.

Honestly, R&H facilities are hands and feet above Darkars. So no matter where you buy, go there for the 2 year toyota car services. Just don't leave valuables in your car... Ask me how I know.
