First, don't assume your tank was full when you picked it up. Forget about this tank, fill it up again, note the odometer, reset trip, whatever, and then compare with what you put in on the next fillup.

When your fuel light comes on you have 3.5-4 gallon left in that 21.1 gallon tank.

Have you been consistently seeing these numbers or just as you are starting to reach the break in period? I am interested in your results in particular as you are in Atlantic Canada too!

oh, ok, so what's accurate??? maybe, I should post pictures of my odometer reading and gas needle to prove it?

The truck is great but on the other hand, gas consumption is pretty terrible and much lower from what's advertised on the sticker... which I would be ok with 16-21mpg

    If not been mentioned,

    1. check tire pressure often, and run as much as you can stand.(start with the max on sidewall, and back it down from there if to rough a ride) Tire$ will also last much longer.

    2. Avoid warm ups or long warm ups (they kill mpg's)

    3. Use cruise

    4. drive like you have no brakes(if you see a light change red let off gas immediately, let your engine slow you down, or if there is a stop sign, let off way ahead of time) I used to count how many times I used my brakes on way to work, and try to lower it each day. You will be surprised how many times you hit your brakes. Brake$ will last much longer..

    5. If you have a really long light, and you get there just as it goes red, shut engine off, and start just before it goes back green.

    6. Slow down, Avoid hard accelerations, and run synthetic oils.

These are some of my tricks, and if you don't like them don't use them...

    1. Write down the exact mileage shown on your odometer and keep this figure in your vehicle.
    2. Fill your up your gas tank completely.
    3. Next time you need gas, write down the mileage shown on your odometer. Subtract the first mileage reading from the second mileage reading. This represents the number of miles that you traveled since your last fill up.
    4. Fill your up your gas tank completely and write down the number of gallons needed to fill your tank.
    5. Take the number of miles since your last fill up (figured instep 3) and divide this by the number of gallons needed to fill up your tank (from step 4).
    6. This is the number of miles per gallon that your vehicle is getting. Repeat these steps several times to get an average mpg for your car. Remember that highway driving uses less gas than city driving and different levels of ethanol will affect your mpg.

Last thread like this they discovered the guys horrible gas mileage was due to the fact that he let his truck warm up for 10 mins every morning because it was cold outside.

Stranger things have happened. . .

I bought my '13 a month and a half ago and have filled up three times and the mpg on each tank has gotten better (18.3, 18.9 and 20.5 last tank). I keep my scangaugeII hooked up so I can track the instantaneous mpg and I think that has helped me maximize my fuel economy to this point. I'm extremely happy with 18-20 mpg on a 4x4 DCSB.

I have 2007 6 speed v6 and got it from dealership 3 years ago and at first was getting 14 to 16 the first year I had the truck. Then I decided to get an ultragauge and then learned when the best time is to shift 1500 to 2000rpm to get the best mileage. This winter my worst tank on flats was 16.7 and best 17.2 sounds close to the auto in winter. Last summer I got between 18.2 and 19.7 mpg, to me sounds just as well as the auto if you shift it when it likes to be shifted. I run 5th gear all the time in town. Note.. everything is stock

I think it's a combination of warmer weather (no warmups) and starting the break in period. Every tank has gotten a little better. Switched to premium last time and this time as well, the jury is still out on that one.

Don't give up on her yet, 'bye. It takes time

Not giving up...Tacoma is in my blood long before this beast.

Everything is stock and do not allow a warm up at all, just start it up and go. The only thing I can think of that could be impacting my mileage is the duration of my trips. This time of year most of my driving is commuting back forth to work and it is roughly 10km each way.I have to wonder if the short trips are causing the bad fuel economy? Ideas?

Probably not helping for sure.....but like I said they should improve. My daily commute is about the same, I try to watch my speed. A heavy foot doesn't help. How many kms on her now?

    341X1.03(to correct for larger tires)=351.2 miles/18.72gallons=18.8MPG
And that's with 265/75/16 tires mixed driving

Also your manual will get a little worse mpg than my auto. I had a2000 4Runner 5 speed thatwas definitely not a highway cruiser. Come to think of it, jeez I loved that truck
