Install Lift, Tires, Rims @ 4wheelparts Store

Fellow TacomaWorld Peeps: Help me decide please. I know that many of you have received "crappy/not so good" advice from 4wheelparts; however, the local store in Austin has agreed to install my lift (which consists of Bilstein 5100 x4, Toytec AAL, 3 degree shims, and a carrier bearing kit), plus install the rims I want, XD796 Revolvers in Bronze and Nitto TG 285/70/17 for 2000 out the door. I am providing them with all the lift parts as they were purchased from DSM and Toytec.

Or, I could have a local shop install the lift and go to 4wheelparts for the rims and tires which would come out to 1712 (just for rims & tires installed). I'd be paying a separate, independent shop to install the lift, cost is 320 from 2 different 4x4 shops in Austin. Total cost 2032.

So should I just get it all done for 2000 or spend 2032? The real question is if I trust 4wheelparts basically to install my lift.

Help me decide please.

 

What kind of things have you heard about the off-road shop that is local? How about service down the line, who would be better for you. Also, would either place be able to offer deals on lifetime alignments?

Just some other things to concider, since the cost is essentially the same.

Also what kind of time frame are you looking at? is it going to take a lot longer to get everything done all at once, or is the turn around time not an issue if it is between two places?

 

It's all just nuts and bolts man. If you have a wrench and a jack, you can do it yourself. I installed my coilovers, UCA's, and AAL in my garage with no special tools. Only took 6 hours and I was by myself. Easy peazy! Then got a lifetime alignment done at a shop for $169 + $50 to mount and balance new tires.

 

I'd totally try to talk a TW member with some know how into helping you do it. Get the tires on the rims and balanced at 4WP and do the rest on your own/with assist.

 

Well, 4wheelparts charges 120 for alignments (which is too much, imo) and it's not lifetime. Both of those are without alignments as I was going to try to hit up firestone to see if I could get the lifetime 150 deal (do I need to buy their tires for that or is that for everyone, still need to find that out). The local shops as far as installing lifts and doing work, I've heard good things locally about them.

Turnaround time is not an issue as it would only take 3-4 hours to install my lift, I then could set an appt. with 4wheelparts and get rims/tires a few days later.

 

I've had excellent results from my local 4WheelParts. They did the lift (OME), rims and tires on my FJ, and I bought the ARB bumper for my Taco from them.

 

I haven't heard anything good or bad about my local 4wheelparts store. I've only heard of some of the nightmares in other cities about the advice given. I'm not really taking any of their advice as I've decided what I want already. They would just be installing it for me.

 

Has anyone ever heard of anything good/bad about the 4wheelparts store in Austin?

install the lift man. you can do it no prob. then pay shitty 4wp to do the wheels. sorry, just bad experience w 4wp back in my jeep days.

Shop shop shop around.... 4Wheelparts is EXPENSIVE compared to what you can find elsewhere.

As for installs - Hell, SEARCH online. YOu'll find tons of information how to install this stuff yourself with a buddy.

 

I hear ya. My neighbor who has friends with experience from 4wp stays far away from them as well.

Well the wheels and tires installed are 1712 (168 x 4=672), they also priced match the tires from discounttiredirect.com (195 x 4=780), so that total is 1452 plus tax, labor, new lug nuts, and re-installing my TPMS .

I'd love to do this stuff, but really none of my buds are mechanically inclined and we all lead pretty busy lives, so I'm kinda stuck here. Also, I'm pretty worthless when it comes anything mechanical. I haven't really learned how to tinker with vehicles.

 

Theres probably local shops that would do a much better job, had mine done locally and it came out great and about 1500 cheaper if i would've done it anywhere else

Also, I'm getting the xd796 revolvers in bronze to go on my desert sand mica and contacted mrwheeldeal.com. his price with shipping was only about 10 dollars cheaper than 4wp.
