    Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone seems to have trouble accelerating to 3500 rpms+?

I just did the deckplate mod and can def. tell the improved acceleration and bad ass sound!

However, I have never ever seemed to accelerate past 3500 rpms. It seems that I really need to get on the gas to get it that high.

I have seen videos of people with my same 03 tacoma, and they accelerate to 5k rpms and accelerate pretty fast with no supercharger, just the deckplate mod.

Anyone else notice this and is there anything that can help?

Yes, it was bought new. My parents were the original owners. Truck has been very well maintained, only has 45k miles on it.

Just changed the coolant, ATF, and did the deckplate mod.

However, I just don't feel comfortable accelerating past 3k rpm. Seems like I really need to push it hard.

Basically I can probably get it to go past 3500 rpms, its just I have never attempted to, because it seems like I really need to floor it.

It seems a little hesitant to get that high. It's not like where I can just hit the gas and it just accelerates quickly, it seems to hesitate to get past 3k rpms

Here is a clip I found of another person with an 03 tacoma prerunner, in the vid, their truck does not seem to hesitate to accelerate.

Could it be they had a stick shift and you got an automatic?

Yeah that one in the vid was an automatic.

I guess I really need to just punch it. I guess I can afford to loose a little bit of gas. :D

    Now here is another question:

I have noticed that my truck will like do a double shift after I hit 45 mph. Like if i am accelerating fast and go past 45, it shifts then shifts like 5mph later, which seems to be like 1 second after.

When its in Power mode, does it inject more gas at all or just change the shift points? Just wondering if I will waste more gas, other than sticking the pedal in more.

Yep! I have noticed the same thing, but its alot easier to get it past 3K with the ECT button on. I just leave it on most of the time because of all the hills around my place.:)

thats TRUE cleaning the MAF does work.

    heres what i also did:

when the engine is COLD try cleaning the inside of the throttle body as well as both sides of throttle body fins. rag damped with gasoline works fine(COLD ENGINE).

    Clean intake tubes

check spark plugs(I installed LASER PLATINUMS) seems ok! better than old toyota specs.

hope this adds some help, worked for me.
