You BIOS isn't seeing the HD, therefor wont boot to it, either it isn't spinning or the HD controller on the motherboard is cooked, either way with it being an Asus, get your data off the drive and go buy an HP.

 

I hate to be the one to tell you, but if you didn't mess with the bios to begin with, then you either have a fried HDD or MOBO.

Your best option is to take it with you and find a friend who has a laptop, pop it in their laptop and if you get the same problem, I hope you had the drive backed up.

 

Well that's some terrible freakin news. Is there any way to fix either of those issues? If this were a best case scenario which one of those 2 issues the better to have and like I said, fixable?

If your hard drive is toast, replace it. May not be so easy if it's the motherboard though, considering the fact that it's a laptop.

Chad is right. The hard drive is loaded with the system specific hardware data, you can't put in a different computer hard drive unless it has the same data.

How did you fix it for me?



I used to build and repair PC's for a living (Though this was 16 years ago).

I've tested parts that way hundreds of times. So, I'm at a loss as to why you say that I'm wrong?

If procedures have changed, I missed it. Always worked for me.

 

Don't need the same data to check a HDD. It will try to boot (if it's not fried), and that will tell him if it's bad or not.

Get the HD, put it in an external drive case made for 2.5 drives with USB connection. Hook it to another computer and see if it works and/or get your info off it onto another external drive. Done.
