    Hey AnT, how ya been.
I'm gonna try to answer this
Love it when I think I know somethin'

    Short answer: No

My Sport, and I assume your's, have 7.5" wide wheels with 5.5" backspacing
The Countersteer X are 8" wide with 4.1" Backspacing
The 1/2" Difference in width moves the wheel's outer rim outward by .25"
    The Difference in backspacing (5.5" - 4.1" = 1.4") moves the wheel's outer rim outward by 1.4"
If I have it right, the outer rim of the Countersteer X will be 1.65" farther outward than Stock.
Therefore, if you put Spacers on, your wheels will be in the grass on either side of the highway :D
I drew up some simple images of backspacing so I could grasp the concept a little better.
Included in the three wheels I depicted are the Stock Sport Wheel and the Countersteer X.
    You can find them here:
Visual Backspace Explaination - Simple Drawings of 3 wheels w/ different backspacing
    Hope that helps ya

No spacers are needed. The wheels have plenty of brake and suspension clearance. Suspension clearance is very good, even with taller/wider tires.

Very good explanation! Thank you for helping us out! Your calculations are correct, however, I believe the Sport wheels actually have a 5.43" back spacing (if the offset is +30mm offset on a 7.5" wide wheel), so the 17x8" -10mm offset Konig CSX will sit outward about 1.8" more vs. stock sport wheels. This fills in the fender wells perfectly.

The Konig CSX will also have approximately 1.3" more inside clearance (suspension side), as well as additional brake clearance because of the taller pad vs. the stock sport wheels.

Either way, as you said, spacers are definitely not needed with the Konigs. Your drawings in that pose are excellent too!

Thanks, alway willing to contribute what I can.
Did the drawings to try and educate myself. Kinda like hands on without gettin' 'em dirty
I've always seen the Sport Wheel listed as 5.5"BS, but I just came up with your figure when I calculated it.
That calculation moves the wheels outer rim out less than my 1st post as edited below.
    ""The Difference in backspacing (5.43" - 4.1" = 1.33") moves the wheel's outer rim outward by (1.33" + .25") 1.58""
Can't figure out how you came up with 1.8" more outward, but........
#1) I have no doubt you know wheels better than I
#2) I can't quibble about a couple tenths of an inch, the CSX have a nice wide stance :D

EDIT: Unfamiliar with term "Taller Pad", do you have a quick description?

********So while I have your ear...........
I've been looking for wheels for 3 years and have yet to find 'em.
Just looking for a simple/plain six spoke without any nuts and lace, in 17"x8"-4.5"BS
Largest tire will probably be 275/70/17
Have looked at your threads many times.
Like the new 17x8 Sixshooter, (I know, wrong thread) but don't want a dark color on my Silverstreak Mica.
Also like the Countersteer X but don't know if I want the 4.1"BS
Also think the Light Gunmetal is too dark for me
So, any chance either might be released in a bright silver like the "BFD's" have available?
    Or maybe special order?
See attachment for the color scheme I'm lookin' for (from FN's FB)

Almost forgot, nice Tire/Wheel Calculator Here

I completely understand where you are coming from. ;)

    Regarding offset and backspacing:

No problem. I'll clarify. It's best to remember that while backspacing and offset are very similar and one of their respective measurements can be used to determine the other, they are not the same thing.

Offset is a measurement of the wheels mounting surface (also called the pad, hub, or the backside of the wheel that comes into contact with the hub on your vehicle) to the center line of the wheel.

Please also remember that wheel width is measured from the inside of the outermost flange (fender side) to the inside of the inner most flange (suspension side). Flange thickness is .5". That means that an 8" wide wheel will actually measure 9" wide : 8" wheel width + 2(.5" flange width).

Backspacing is measured from the very outer edge of the wheel (outside of the flange that is nearest the suspension) to the mounting pad.

Generally we use backspacing to determine suspension clearance, because you'll want to know the distance you have between the flange and your vehicle's suspension.

Offset is better used in determine fender clearance and track width.

So now, in comparing the difference in wheel track width between a factory '05+ Tacoma TRD Sport 17" wheel and a Konig Counteresteer Type X 17" wheel:

TRD Sport Wheel : 7.5" wide and +30mm offset
Konig Countersteer Type X Wheel (hereafter referred to as CSX) : 8" wide and -10mm offset

The CSX is .5" wider. Since a wheel is round and this width is spread evenly across the wheel, we can draw an imaginary line down the center and divide by 2. This tells us that we are adding .25" to the outside of the center and we are adding .25" to the inside of the center of our circle.

Now we will compare the offsets. If the wheels had identical offsets of +30mm , we would say that the new wheel sits outward by .25" more and has .25" less suspension side clearance.

However, the CSX has a lower offset. The -10mm offset of the CSX is 40mm lower than the TRD Sport wheels.

Now, we know that the CSX will sit outward 40mm additional, plus the additional .25" of wheel width (if the CSX was the same width as the TRD Sport wheels, the CSX would just sit outward 40mm additional, and if the CSX was narrower, we would subtract the difference in width from 40mm).

    Convert .25" to mm = 6.35mm.

    40mm
    + 6.35mm
    46.35mm

    Convert back to inches:

    46.35mm / 25.4 (mm per inch) = 1.82"

1.82" is the amount of additional track width a 17x8" -10mm offset CSX will have vs. a factory 17x7.5" TRD Sport wheel.

Here's one other, less technical way of figuring it:

Konig CSX Wheel: 8" wheel width / 9" width flange to flange / 4.11" back spacing. If the overall width is 9", and 4.11" is behind the mounting pad (backspacing), 4.89" is the amount of wheel in front of the pad.

TRD Sport Wheel : 7.5" wheel width / 8.5" width flange to flange / 5.43" back spacing. If the overall width is 8.5", and 5.43" is behind the mounting pad (backspacing), 3.07" is the amount of wheel in front of the pad.

Caluclation for fender clearance / vehicle track width comparison:

4.89" (amount of CSX sitting to the outside of the hub)
-3.07" (amount of TRD Sport sitting to the outside of the hub)
1.82" more wheel will be sitting towards the outside of your truck.

This does not mean that the CSX sticks out of the fenders by 1.82". It just means that the CSX sits outward 1.82" more than a factory TRD Sport wheel.

If this is still confusing to anyone I totally understand that it can be daunting. Please PM me if you have any questions, and I will create some drawings to illustrate.

    Regarding available colors:

I can work with you on getting a set custom powder coated the exact finish that you'd like. We do it all the time for customers that want special colors. I'll PM you for more details. :)

To sum up: The Konig Countersteer Type X wheel fits great on all 6-lug Toyotas (especially Tacomas), and we've had many satisfied Tacoma owners running the Countersteer Type X wheels for a few years now. While we do offer fitments that are more aggressive than stock in order to provide better looks and performance, we avoid offering radical or extreme fitments that require excessive modification, because then not too many folks would be able to use our wheels. :)

PM response sent to you. Thank you sir. :)

As for your picture request, I'll have to do some digging around. That's a pretty specific request. I'm sure it will look good, although I personally like a little contrast against a black truck (i.e. anthracite gunmetal or matte bronze).

Thanks for the detailed reply and PM
I'm sure I'll be referring back to it, again in the future.
Still on the hunt. Maybe the perfect wheel just doesn't exist for me :(
I'm subbed to a few of your threads, so I'll be kept up to date.
    Decisions, Decisions
    Thanks again

Thank you! PM response sent. :)

No problem! I'm glad I could help. I think one of our wheels would be nearly perfect for you. Perfection is hard to achieve, but we always strive to get as close as possible. :)

Dam that's nice! I went to 4 wheel parts today to get quoted on tires and the guy said he wouldn't recommend running 285s.
Anybody know why? I really want the 285s.

You'll have some rubbing on the fender liner and possibly the plastic over fender with 285's. If the offset and backspacing is low enough (the Countersteer Type X has the perfect offset and back spacing) you will not have any rubbing on your control arm, and with this offset you will not have any rubbing on the frame either (other than possibly some very slight rubbing if you run an extremely aggressive 285 tire that runs wider and taller normal).

I have tested this exact setup, and there aren't any issues as long as you select the correct wheel and as long as you don't mind doing some trimming.

Definitely a 2.5" - 3" lift is recommended with 285/70R17, otherwise you'll have to trim too much of your fender liner.

just wanna give a shout out to dustin and share my personal experience...
texted and talked with dustin over the phone for a couple days. answered all my questions and gave me a deal i couldnt resist. i jumped the gun and bit the bullet.
after sorting out prices and shipping costs over the phone, we discussed me picking the wheels up in corona to save money. after a couple more conversations...
what made the deal even sweeter was dustin offered to meet me where i live and drop off the wheels instead, since he sometimes visits the town i live in.
i drove all but 9 mi's to meet him and the rest is history. long story short, i am now a happy camper and proud owner of some sweet looking wheels.

thanks dustin! pleasure to meet you and do business with. anyone on the fence with purchasing wheels from dustin...
pull the trigger and buy with confidence. dont hesitate to call or message him. dustin is easy to do business with.

Thank you my friend! :) I really appreciate your business and friendliness! It was a pleasure to meet you and your wife. Now let's see some photos of your truck once you get the wheels mounted up. :D
