Vintage scooters are pretty cool. Any of the older machines restored to their factory glory are good to me. I have a 72 trail 90 in my shed. It needs some love but daddy needs a new bike first. Hoping that happens in the next couple weeks!

Ugh... I know what you mean. I really want to get a motorcycle for longer trips... preferably a late 60's Yamaha RD or a Moto Guzzi but I'm so broke and I will never sell my Vespa. I've considered selling the Taco... but I just love it so much that I can't bring myself to let it go either!

Yamaha RD rider here. You can still get into one for fairly cheap and they are really easy to service yourself, certainly easier than a guzzi. If you ride vespa's you will love an RD, R5, or any of old Yammy 2 stroke twins. I think if you want one, get it sooner than later, they have a cult following for now but it's starting to spread. I think within the next 10 years the values are gonna go way up, like Honda CBs did in the last 10. People are figuring out that they are just as sexy looking as a cb350 but WAY faster, and rarer.

hey guys I have an 03 yz 85 that I bought cheap because it wasn't running. I cleaned out the carb and the air filter then put it back together filled it up with new fluids and it ran perfectly fine for about half an hour. I put it up and tried to take it out again today to go change the front tire and rear bearings but when I started it the thing would only run with the choke held wide open. as soon as I let tthe choke off it would die within seconds, If i let the choke off and give it a bunch of gas it would run a little longer but still bog down and die. this is my second bike that I have worked on.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have the manual too if i need to look anything up

How old is your gas? How sure are you of the mix ratio of the gas? How much oil did you put on the filter?

Is it oil injected or does it take pre mix? Could be an air leak, check and see that the carb manilfold is on tight and that the airbox is together properly. Does it idle?

It's premixed fuel. Pilot and main jets are clogged up. Take the carb off and clean everything. Pull those jets out and use a piece of wire from a wire brush or apiece of speaker wire and run that through the jets. And put new gas in it. It'll run fine

I didn't actually have time to pull it apart today but that's definitely what I will do. Plus the gas in it is from the person before me cause I just got the bike so yeah i'll change that out too. Do i NEED to put wire into the jets or can I just use my air compressor to try and blow them out? Thanks guys.

(I asked my buddy about this and he said it's too cold out could that be the case or is he just talkin out of his ass?)

pre mixed. I did clean the air filter the other day (well an elder helped me) so i'll check if that's all back together properly. It will idle if I have the choke on but right now if I take the choke off it will bog out and die.

The cold might have something to do with the issue, I usually end up turning the air screw on my carb about 1/4 turn in during the colder months. But that probably wouldn't cause the problem you are describing on it's own. If cleaning your carb again doesn't work you can try just replacing the jets alltogether, I'm sure you can find a carb rebuild kit on ebay.

Almost guarantee this is your problem. You cleaned the carb and it worked great until the crap gas plugged the jets back up. I would use wire if possible because hardened varnish wont come out wth air as easily
