I heard Gulches will flood with a hard rain. I was invited on t4r.org a month ago but could not make it.

Ordered some parts. Bumpstops, 3/8 spacer for the leaf spring, wheel spacers for the front, 1" bore master cylinder and a proportioning valve bypass. Should all be here next week. :D

    Max,

This is a great lay down, as I plan to follow pretty much what you have done. I was just laying out what I needed to do when I remembered this thread.

However, I' may go the route of building it up as a rock crawler, not sure yet

The truck is rust free and the suspension is a 5" Rancho with 2-3"blocks in the back and appears to be in good shape.

Here's what I initially have planned for my 81 (see avatar).

1-Have front bumper fabbed for winch and tow bar, as I'm not planning to use this as a daily driver.
2-Install 63" Chevy leafs in rear
3-Swap out 4 speed and install the 5 speed transmission (have the tranny already)
    4-Replace exhaust
    5-Remove and sell bed (maybe)
6-Fab rear roll cage (if I sell bed)
    7-Fab rock sliders
    8-Inspect and replace radiator
9-Rebuild front and rear axles, change gearing to 4:88 and possibly weld diffs for permanent locking
    10-Complete fluid change
11-Replace current 17" wheels with 15" steel rims and 35 or 37" TSL super swampers

Thanks for creating such a detailed build thread, as it saves me a lot of research.

I've never undertaken a project of this magnitude, but I am mechanically inclined.

    Jim

Looks like you've done your homework. Just take your time when fabbing/building it. Keep me updated on the build. It's very rewarding wheeling something you built yourself.

Unless the 17s are god awful ugly then I'd keep them, that and save for a real locker up front. That and I'd go 5.29s over 4.88s for that tire size.

Well I finally got all the parts in I ordered. Just got the new bearings/seals in the ifs width axle a few mins ago. I would not recommend trying to do it without a press, luckly the guy that let me use his when I did the 4.7 gear install helped me out again. Going to try and get it all together this week.

Hit a roadblock. Got everything together, new MC, new brakes, new wheel cylinders, Summit LSPV bypass the whole 9. I've bled the brakes several times, bench bled the MC and the pedal still goes to the floor. :notsure:

Anyone have any ideas. I'm considering putting the old MC back on to see if the new is bad.

If I pump it two/three times it works great, but the first pump sucks.

Did you adjust the booster rod with the clevis that attaches to the pedal? Maybe there is too much pedal movement before the rod hits the cylinder, :notsure:

Well just my luck, I get going down the road and notice the rear wheel has a slight wobble. Come to find out the axle shaft is bent.

Still feel weird. But they work. The bent axle is causing the drum to rub when the tire is spinning. Im considering burning this SOB to the ground.
