Something by Traxxas (maybe a slash). If it was just for him, Id get it brushed as a brushless might be too fast. If your going to use it, go brushless (less maintenance too, except it may break more as they are generally faster).

RC18's are great, plus they can be used inside as they arent very big. I bought an RC18T many years ago, and it still works like new (original motor, new ESC though).

This, or even a Traxxas Stampede is good tough truck, it's more of a monster truck, (prolly a bit better for grass) than a race truck. Either will be gret choices.

Agreed. People on Hobby R/C Forums will bash anything unless it was built from a kit and has a Mamba Monster in it.

I would say it all depends on what your trying/wanting to do with your model. If your racing on a groomed, purpose built track, it give the edge to the Losi, if your just playing around, running up and down the street, park, construction site baseball diamond etc: I'd say the Slash would be hard to beat.

I disagree. The Losi is more or less an 8th scale. That will trump a slash 4x4. I've seen guys do utterly brutal shit to their losi 4x4s and they keep on going, it's pretty impressive.

I'm willing to bet his issue is with tuning. shit can be overwhelming when you're just reading a manual

Thanks for all the advice. I'm looking at a few models right now but worried about battery run times.
axial SCX10, traxxas summit 1/16, traxxas stampede and stampede 4x4.
I've had two T-maxxs in the past and hated nitro. Well hated to tune all the time and I really did not understand nitro s 100 percent. Also have a traxxas stampede and it's really old. I need to price a few things and see how much it would cost to get it up and running again. Old, being when traxxas thought the stinger motors were hot stuff.

Well in my research, I have found that they still sell the stinger motor.... maybe the age is late 90's?

1/8 nitro is a bit messy, that is why the RC gods bestowed simple green upon us

it seems to melt dirt off all I use it on, opens up the pores in the tires too

Why would I want something that turns like 1/4 of the rpm of a nitro engine? lol

Found a home brew formula for cleaner on the interweb:

    2 parts denatured alcohol
    1 part Simple Green
    and a splash of WD40

    Seems to work pretty good...

No I don't, but I do have a losi 5ive, and honestly its the best car/truck ive had so far. As far as comparing nitro to gas, in my opinion, there is no comparison... Gas is more reliable, easier to operate, and you don't have to tune 3 times a day lol. Just my 2 cents.

    I've been wanting a 1/5th scale

Haven't done enough research on witch one to go with losi or hpi.

There's a place about half an hour from me with a 1/5 scale track

I finished up my lcg slash conversion last night came out good haven't gotten a chance to test it. Next is a new radio and I'm done for a wile
