I LIVE IN AN INCORPORATED VILLAGE AND THEY HAVE A BY LAW OR SOME SHIT THAT PEOPLE CAN NOT ACCEPT A BUYOUT FROM THE GOBBERMENT AS IT WILL EFFECT THE TAX BURDEN OR OTHERS AND EFFECT QUALITY OF SERVICES RENDERED
AND OUR PROPERTYS ARE NOT THAT BIG MAYBE 100 X 150' SO IF YOU WERE TO RAISE YOUR HOME YOU WOULD NEED 30-40K JUST TO BUILD A FRONT STOOP TO GET TO YOUR HOUSE. NOT TO MENTION THE STEPS WOULD PROBULARY REACH RIGHT DOWN TO THE STREET

SO MOST PEOPLE THAT PLAN ON STAYING ARE DOING DORMERS INSTEAD OF LIFTING AND KIND OF MAKING THE FIRST FLOOR AN EXPENDABLE AREA

 

Down here on the barrier Island the problem they are having is they raised the first floor hight requirement but never changed the maximum hight require for the over all house.

And the policies are effectively a joke.

I don't live in a flood zone but insurance would add a few hundred to the annual cost. On the other hand, the deductible would be $40,000. The same is true for earthquake coverage. No one writes it either so you're left with a policy that costs you lots and which you probably won't be able to collect on in either case (and by the way, if a pipe breaks-it's a flood).

Won't be long before wildfire will fall into the same category as flood and earthquake. And I'm pretty sure I'll see the day when you'll be required to have insurance that you'll never be able to collect on
