My Saturday night plans fell apart. Have some small errands to run but should be around tonight if you want to start on the compressor. I know Greg has a project going on so not sure of his availability.

And I will admit, I'm more comfortable with mechanical than electrical...

Unless you want to take the lead, I'd suggest waiting until either Silas or Greg are available. I'd rather have someone walk you through it then attempt to fumble with it.

In other news, my hilift mount project hit a snag. Stuck trying to find the right hardware to fit the eyelet properly. Have to run Lowe's... again.

    What's the reason he gave?

    Has your clutch been slipping?

He said the slave is working and everything else is fine. At least I have the limited warranty from auto zone and I might as well replace the slave while he's down there.

That sucks. I replaced my clutch when 4&5 were slipping. 4th only when down shifting.

Thanks for the welcomes. I know I won't be stock for long. I am already looking at lifts. I kind of wish I would have bought the SR5 instead of the TRD off-road since I probably going to replace most of those upgrades. Oh well.

I am out of town when you guys are going to Glorietta but I hope I can go on another sometime soon.

How well do you know your mechanic? Not calling him out but things are not adding up from my experience. Replacing the clutch is usually a sign of a worn clutch. Symptoms of a worn clutch are slipping when under load. This would manifest itself in sudden loss of drive at the wheels with RPMs suddenly climbing. Best way to test is to romp on it, especially on a climb. Or shift up into a higher gear when RPMs are low (but not low enough to stall it out), hammer on the gas, and see if it slips.

If it is a problem shifting, then it points to a problem with the shifter seat or the throw fork not working properly. The shifter seat will show itself when parked and just cycling through the gears. If you have a problem getting it into a slot, points to the seat. The throw fork not working usually points to the hydraulics going bad or possibly the throw fork alignment. I've never seen where the throw fork gets misaligned but random shit happens.

All that being said, I know you said the engine is new. Did you do the clutch and flywheel then? If not, do you have any idea how many miles are on the current clutch. It could be that the clutch is worn and needs replacing anyways but if you are having problems putting it in gear, this won't solve that. How many miles ago did you put in the new engine? They would have seen the condition of the flywheel at that point.

The fact that your clutch hydraulic fluid is low points to a leak which could be the cause of the shifting problem. The fluid doesn't just disappear, it is a closed system so it has to be going somewhere. In the least, top it off pump the clutch and see if things are working better or the fluid level drops again.

Ask for the old parts back or at least to see them. If the flywheel gets replaced, check the old one for scoring or glazing. On the clutch plate, look at how the pads have worn and if they are ground down to the rivets. Also check the clutch cover to see if any of the springs are broken, damaged or flattened.

Apologies for all this, especially if you trust your mechanic, but I know you're on a budget and trying to help you get it fixed without wasting money. And, yeah, it could be that the entire clutch system is old enough and needs a thorough going through.

I've known him for a while
The clutch was replaced same time as motor. around 11,000 miles ago (11 months)
I guess I could've worn it out but I highly doubt that its been less than a year.

It just seems like that because you were going 20!

Now that I think about it, I have tried to teach my ex girlfriend how to drive standard. Its hard saying no to the cute ones

I treat my truck like a racing car, using compression braking, feathering and many other bad things with the clutch. I typically get 100k out of one. With 11k miles on it, unless you've got it to the point where you could smell it burning, I really don't think it is the clutch. I'd ask him how the symptoms point to the clutch and have him walk through each piece of the chain. In the meantime, I'd fill the master reservoir and see if things improve or fluid disappears.
