Which AIR Filter Do You Use?

I'd worry more about the fine dust in the desert than the sand at the beach.
That's just going to fall out of the filter element into the bottom of the airbox... fairly coarse grit.

Offroad driving is hell on air filters.

 

Is the AFE Pro Dry washable?

 

Id try this buy have factory intake with SCer any options for people running SCer?

 

I just received mine- directions state 1. tap clean, and return it to 85% of its original airflow 2. vacuum clean, 96% 3. wash clean return to 100% original air flow. Some other members that have had for awhile will probably chime in.

 

Thanks for the info. I bought one off of Amazon a couple of weeks ago but it was the wrong one. Sent it back on Fri and reordered with the correct part number. Should have it in a couple of days.

This is probably a foolish question to post here as there is a definite bias toward the factory paper filter, but I'll ask anyway.

Which reusable drop-in replacement filter will FILTER the best?

I just sold my afe intake system and put my old air filter back in, but looking around a replacement paper filter will cost at least $20. My truck only has 26,000 miles on it and I plan on keeping it until it dies or reaches 200,000 miles, so buying a $40 or $50 reusable filter makes sense to me.

 

2011 regular cab 4x4 manual with 18K miles

1. AFE Pro Dry S
2. My MPG is consistently between 22 and 24MPG depending on the time of year
3. No issues with oil on the MAF

 

Im about to get an afe pro dry, but im wondering if it will let dust particles throu if I remove the secondary filter?

 

Best breathing and best protection paper, is a napa gold air filter. In most cases , and especially in dry dusty areas the HiPo filters ( cotton matrix) fail to filter fine dust from being ingested.

The OEM filter is good for 30k+ unless you offroad in the desert and frequently foul filters, so a $50 reusable would take almost 100k to pay for.

Unfortunately, there aren't many options for a washable filter that will fit the stock airbox. The TRD filter is a K&N. I don't believe AFE makes one.

 

The secondary is not really a filter.
It is simply a casing for activated charcoal that traps unburned fuel vapors after engine shutdown.

 

I know some like this, but does it really do anything?

I only have 26000 or so miles on mine and I plan on this making 200,000 so it makes financial sense to me to buy something and reuse it for life. I probably drive close to 25,000 miles a year so I'd be replacing the air filter once a year, or every third oil change. I found a deal on a TRD filter for only $30 so I'll be using that once I get it.

 

Keep an eye on your oil consumption once you've got over 100k on it.
My '94 turned into an oil burner.

But before that, do yourself a favor and next oil change (before installing the filter), send a sample to Blackstone for analysis.

A couple of oil changes after installing the TRD, send another sample in and look at the silicon levels. Wanting to keep the truck for 200k+, you may change your mind on the cleanable filter after seeing the levels.

after your comment above i took out the filter that came with the SCer kit and put in a WIX till i make a Toyota order again

 

Guess ill be running oem for a couple days......might run the ave stage 2 Si again.....I traded my urd for it.

 

Stock and no complaints however better mileage wouldn't be too bad.

 

Stock and all the others get the same mpg.
