Lights out! Please help....

ok so I have had the black headlights with halo rings and LEDs for a while now. All of a sudden the other day the parking lights quit working. Both the low beams and high beams still wor but the parking lights used to turn on the halo rings and LEDs. I thought at first the headlights were just bad or something but when i drove it that night none of the interior dash lights except the speedo and tach area would work. Im thinking it could be a fuse or something but the damn manual is so confusing about fuses. Any ideas or quick fixes?

 

Unconfuse yourself about the diagram for the fuses- There are some under the dash and some under the hood- Find them and check them (Check every one if you can't figure out which one goes to the lights).

If that's not it...Check all your ground for the new lights.
other ideas will follow I'm sure.

 

check the fuses, their is two fuse boxes, one in the cab by the hood release and the other by the battery, if you open either one the cover has a diagram on the inside cover, just look for parking lights or something that has to do with lights, if it is blown the metal inside the fuse will be black or broken.

 

#1 Fuses
#2 Bad ground
#3 bulbs bunt out
#4 ummm thats it

 

its gotta be the fuses...i just didnt wanna pull every single one. i figured someone would know. the ground has been good for a year and there is no way all those bulbs went out at once.

Alright I found the fuse that was blown. I replaced it and turned on the lights. I could hear it blow right away again. I tried it one more time with the radar detector out of the accessory outlet and the truck off. Turning on the lights again blew the fuse. So now I need to track down the short somewhere that is causing this...any ideas? I'm lost on where to even start.

 

Check the ground....

No need to apologize, there is no stupidity...

There should be ground wires from your lights, wiring always has a positive and negative. Electrical is a push pull system... Anyways, look at your headlights and trace your ground wire (mostly everytime it is a black wire, positive is usually red or white). If it's not "grounded" properly there will be a short. Most likely an exposed wire contacting something bad. Or sometime it's grounded back to the body and it's loose. Either way, start at the headlights and work your way through the wiring harness. I'm sorry I don't have a better description for you as I haven't installed these lights.

Good luck and take your time. Keep a few more fuses handy to test it out. It mos def sounds like a ground issue as your blowing fuses...

meh, you mess with the electrical system install ghetto lights, etc., you get the shit that comes with it. Don't be so bored, some mods are booby traps.

 

You may need to trace the wiring too... Possible it's shorting to the body somewhere (mouse or something could have nipped it).
