    Hi,

The Toyota brochure for the 2013 says that A-TRAC is standard for all models. Here's a link to the brochure: http://www.toyota.com/content/ebrochure/2013/tacoma_ebrochure.pdf

Look towards the end at the "SPECIFICATIONS MECHANICAL/PERFORMANCE DRIVETRAIN" section. The third item reads: "Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) S S S S S S S". In other words A-TRAC is standard on all 2013 Tacomas.

Is this true, or just a particularly boneheaded misprint?

Good Eye! It is a MISTAKE! LOL Sorry! A-TRAC is a four wheel drive Off Road TRD only item.

Also on that link is this, which is correct:

    TRD Off-Road Package:
Off-road-tuned suspension with Bilstein® shocks, electronically
controlled locking rear differential, 16-in. alloy wheels with P265/70R16 BFGoodrich® tires,
Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) (4x4 models only),
    Hill Start Assist Control (HAC)4
    and Downhill
    Assist Control (DAC)5
(4x4 automatic transmission models only), ...

    This man speaks the truth.

My 13 definitely does NOT have A-TRAC.

    Interesting thread for sure.

    Hi,

Yesterday afternoon I called the 1-800-GO-TOYOTA number on the 2013 Tacoma brochure and asked whether A-TRAC was standard on all models as the brochure claims. They were not able to answer and gave me the direct number to Toyota corporate. I called there this morning and the guy I got put me on hold for a few minutes while he researched the question then confirmed that A-TRAC is part of the STAR safety package and that it is present and active on every 2013 Tacoma regardless of model or options.

I explained that this was a make-or-break point for me and that I'd been told that it was only present on vehicles with the TRD OR package. The Toyota corporate rep stuck to his guns saying that the brochure was correct and that it was present and active on all 2013 Tacomas not just vehicles with the TRD package.

Whether he's correct or not is a whole other question.

Maybe someone else could try calling and see what answer they get.

    Mike

They are talking about the traction control (TRAC). I can tell you with 100% confidence that not all 2013's have A-TRAC.

In other news they're also telling everyone a locking diff is standard by confusing all diffs as being of the locking variety.

Salesman on the lot half the time don't known what they're talking about so I wouldn't give much credibility to someone at corporate for a technical answer.

It is kinda sad - and I'm sure you guys are right.

Here's why I'm asking. I want a regular cab Tacoma because I like the shorter wheelbase/turning radius and the 4 cylinder engine is OK with me. As I understand it, you can only get a TRD package with a 6 cylinder. So you can only get a TRD OR package with a 6 cylinder. You can't get a 6 cylinder with a standard cab. So you can't get an OR package and, in particular, a locking rear diff and/or A-TRAC with a standard cab truck. Do I have Toyota's logic right?

My thought was that, if it turned out that the standard cab 4 cylinder had A-TRAC, I'd probably be willing to forego the locker but apparently it doesn't.

Let me ask this - would a standard cab 2013 have Auto-LSD active in 4WD low? Or are you stuck (so to speak) with just open diffs with a standard cab. And is Auto-LSD really worthwhile from a 4 wheeling standpoint?

Mike, like you, I'm fairly new to this board, but I've been wheeling and driving 4x4s for a LONG time. In my opinion, it really depends what you want to do with your Tacoma. Electronic traction aids, like the "Auto-LSD," are only good for mild off-road driving, IMHO. For example, I live in Colorado where we have everything from mild to wild, and I can tell you with certainty, that an LSD wouldn't help you much doing serious rock crawling, and it wouldn't be very helpful in mud, when you're trying to keep your wheel speed up. If I were you, and I was trying to build a capable off-road truck, I would just add an aftermarket selectable locker to your truck after you buy it. There are several good ones on the market that will make your truck far more capable than any "auto-LSD" setup you could buy it with.

    - Gino
