yeah never driving above 60 would make me shoot myself. I get some kind of gas mileage driving around. It is what it is. I just measure my MPG to monitor engine health .

Best mileage on a tank, so far, was 21MPG. Average, over the 32K miles I've put on my Tacoma since buying it in 2008, is 19MPG.

I've seen at least one mention of the fact that winter blend gas does bad things to mileage, not to mention performance...

I can still get 20 on a long highway trip with Duratracs and a 3" lift on my 2nd gen lol. Granted winter around town driving is 13-14.

You guys claiming poor mileage or the L4 can't do this or that need to learn about tire size and gear ratios. It's simple math. Go read up on it.

If you're one of them guys that has to race everywhere. Then good for you,... you get the mileage you deserve. If you want to get high 20's to low 30's then read and research a bit. No I'm not talking about reading here at TacomaWorld.

Tire size increase. Gear ratio "numerically" lowers by increasing the size. The RPM cruising speed then lowers. Yes...you will you lose some pedal to the metal but so what. I cruze at 55 mph on the free way 70 miles per day 5 days per week. I get 30-32 MPG depending my heavy foot.

I use premium gas, pulstar plugs, k&n air filter and I got rid of the air robbing/mpg robbing parasitic plastic contraption in the right fender (take the wheel well liner off...you'll see it), synthetic everything, and I run 245 70 r 17's on my access cab 2.7L manual 5 base 2wd. That's it. Nothing special. No whiz bang devices. No BS.

If you want to bad mouth and doubt, go ahead. I love sitting back and laughing at the mentally challenged who can't figure the fuel mileage thing out.

Decreasing the coeffiecient of drag is next to increase my fuel mileage.

I totally believe what you are getting. At 60 I get 32+ and upwards of 37 in good weather. That's with stock intake, 60K service interval, carbon filter still in place, synth in gear box and diff, semi-synth 5w-20.

On the other hand I don't believe that any of the things I bolded are giving you any extra mpg. If the premium is E0 and the regular is E10 that is the reason you would get better mpg from premium. If you can get regular E0 I bet you'd see mpg equal to premium.

Intake doesn't effect mpg, it is well studied. If you are driving for mpg you throttle plate is the big air robber, not the air filter or anything pre-throttle.

Well, I don't have a lead foot or anything. The ratings for the 4.8 were 15-18 mpg new, avg in the 15s with 136,000 miles is respectable. The rating for 5.3 in tahoe was 14-17, so again, in the range.

However, I see the big difference, your avg mph is 46.8. That is great, mostly highway speeds then, with my mixed use my avg mph is high 20s to low 30s. If mine were in mid to high 40s, I'd guess my avg mpg close to, or better than 16 in 5.3 and 17 in 4.8.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Finally, a thread that does not bitch about mileage. Never understood why people buy trucks and complain about mileage, so mind boggling to me.

ya. i got a lot better with the stupid rugged fails. but i know it’s because of the weight of the tires is a LOT different. I usually get like320 to 340 still. 300 is on the low side. all depends how much i tow, or hot rod around in a hay field or something.

I probably get horrible gas milage, but I blame that on my lead foot instead of the truck (and don't give a darn). Since I get so much pleasure from driving robustly (but safely - no accidents of any kind, ever), I've never really obtained good gas milage from any vehicle (sports car to the wife's minivan). In fact, due to that, I pretty much gave up on watching gas milage long ago (again, don't care).
