question about the air force

Alright I deped in August I'm supposedly color blind according to the color vision test. I only got like 4 out of how many ever there is I was wanting para rescue then changed my mind for sere after some thinking. I know I can pass the past test for sure (I passed the past test for sere when a couple of guys went and qualified for para rescue). Is there any way around the color vision test after basic so I could still get sere. Sorry for any typos I'm on my phone.

 

Nope. Once they find out they will drop you r ass back to LAF.

Also if you are color blind or have a depth issue do not worry, go for SERE anyway!! They can get waiver for anything. Trust me I know, I am color blind and I am a full time static line parachutist and I've attended various Army courses that require color vision with no problems.

 

Well I don't know someone did pm me with great information and great suggestions and suggested loadmaster. I've been researching no body has anything bad to say sounds great and everything I would like. I'm great at math I want to fly on planes. Better yet I will travel a lot.

You cant get a waiver. unless you know people. Im a medic. Ive worked pretty much everywhere in the hospital. If you dont pass that color vision test you cant even be a flyer...

 

Pursue a waiver if its what you want to do.

As a former Loadmaster (Flying Class III) and now commissioned Navigator (Flying Class 1A), I will tell you there are waivers for anything, regardless what the Airman at the clinic will tell you. I know flyers that are colorblind, have crap vision, and less than stellar hearing. It is of course easier to get a waiver after you've already passed a medical and then failed one down the road.

You're in for an uphill battle so be prepared to possibly be disappointed. If you don't want to wait around forever for a waiver (they do take time!), I would suggest a career field with less stringent medical requirements and once able, applying for a cross train and waiver.

Just basically the tech giving u the test. Which is what I am. Or a doc that will help you out.

Thanks for the help guys my sargent in jrotc had the color test or something similar I got almost all of them. I think I had two problems when I went down number one I didn't really know what to expect because my recruiter never really told me much before I went. Number two I was nervous and kind of scared after I found out I had to much protien in my piss didn't really know what that meant at the time.

 

Proteinuria can be normal with excercise or a fever. Then again it could be due to kidney damage. If they don't find anything else I'm sure you'll be fine.
As far as the color test goes, congrats! But you should know, you will have to take a flight physical later on and pass it again.

 

Alright have another question when I go back to meps before I ship if I pass it would i be able to get a different contract before I leave. Should I go ahead and take the past test before I leave I know I can pass it.

 

If you pass at MEPS and want a different job and they won't give it to you, don't join. The ball is in your court until you sign your contract. "Sir, I passed the applicable flight physical and would like to change my job preference to _______. If its not available, or you can't make that work for me, I'm going to explore other options. Thanks for your time."

Remember, be respectful, but its your life and your career. Don't let them push you into something you don't want to do. Recruiters and folks at MEPS are there for numbers, not to necessarily make you happy. The military, Air Force included, needs bodies and will do what they must to get those.

If you are serious about wanting an to be in a career field where a flight physical is required, be prepared for a longer wait before shipping out than a shitty job like Security Forces, etc. As a former enlisted Security Forces troop who cross trained to an enlisted aircrew career field to now being a commissioned rated officer, I will tell you whole heartily its worth the wait. Bottom line, read your freakin' contract.

Definitely wouldn't hurt. Every Air Force test has some gamesmanship involved in passing. Learn how the test works and what is required to pass and it makes the test much easier if you know what the expectations are.
