Hey man. I know it's not ideal but here's what I did to substitute T-nuts. Just take a washer and grind it down on two sides. Worked like a champ for holding my ammo can and Hi-Lift jack.
I just took a lag bolt, then ran the grounded washer down it. That's all that goes in the bed rail. Then add a washer for the outside of the bed rail, a lock washer if you'd like and a nut. Then you've got yourself a good solid mount for whatever you want. This bolt in the pictures was one of two I used to mount my jack. The nuts in the middle acted like a backstop for the jack to tighten up against.

That's almost exactly what I did actually. Just a bolt and washer inside (12mm). had to file down the top of the bolt a little bit but it only too like 5 minutes each (per hand file) and then a washer outside and a wing nut. I will post the finished product later today when I finish. But I have to go get spray paint.. which could present a problem due to the fact I'm not 18..

So instead if white with black, do blue with white? That would be different, I am more partial to the blue with black myself.

not saying to go against your father, but it is plasti dip after all, you could do it and if he doesn't approve just peel it off. That's the great thing about plasti dip.
