Very well said, couldn't agree more. My grandfather owns a ridgeline and i took for a drive back before i got my tacoma and it felt like an accord with a bed to me, it is a very nice truck but should never be matched up to the Frontier or Tacoma. Imo

I say we start a letter writing campaign to CR and let them know that they don't know what the f a truck is.

Although, a friend went from a 4Runner to a Frontier and digs it.

CR finds it unethical to get their loafers dirty and do an unbiased, use as designed test.

When you're at the top for so long...You can't go any higher.

After owning a 96 for 5 years and owning an 07 for 56years.... The quality of the 2nd gens isn't as good as the 1st gens. So yes....I'd say, they've slipped slightly.

That doesn't make me want to buy something else......

It's the WAVE of the future in EVERYTHING you buy.....quality goes downhill because they can't afford to put the same high quality (and more expensive) parts to make the same amount of profit. So, they make the same product with lesser quality parts and get more profits.

I stopped reading CR when they complained that the Tacoma 'rode like a truck'.

    What did they expect?

The two problems I encountered in the three years I've had my truck were:

    1. Chirping HVAC blower - I replaced with non-chirping aftermarket unit for $30. Later Toyota came up with a TSB blower that doesn't chirp.
    2. Rust pits in the rear bumper chrome. Toyota has a TSB. I haven't decided whether I should get the bumper replaced under warranty, or just install the All-Pro bumper I have on order...

EDIT: Turns out the apparent rust is all on the surface. 20 minutes with a scotchbrite pad took off all the rust, revealing clean chrome underneath, with no sign of any pits.

The powertrain and all the electronic LSD/DAC/ATRAC gadgetry have been flawless.

I was shocked and disappointed to see that the Tacoma has lost it's CR Recommended rating as a top value choice.
Not only that, but it is ranked third in it's truck class, falling behind 1) Nissan Frontier and 2) Honda Ridgeline.

CR has always preferred middle-of-the-road, non-descript, lackluster products (whether vehicles or toasters) that appeal to the lay person...they will rarely recommend a sophisticated, leading edge product that appeals to a purist...unless it also appeals to everyone else as well... i.e. the overwhelming majority of sheeple..."rides like a truck"??? Well DUH! People who choose a Ridgeline over a Taco never will consider going off-road, towing, or putting anything in the bed that might scratch it.

My rule of thumb: if CR likes it, it's too boring and unexciting for me.

You want a comfy ride BUY A FUCKING BENZ! You want your dick sucked while you drive BUY A FUCKING HOOKER! Fuck CR, Ridgeline? Oh fuck off, I mean really just fuck off, that's not a truck, THIS IS A TRUCK!

And that's b/c the layperson, not the purist, is the one who buys CR. It's about writing to your biggest audience.

That said if you want something that will do it all at once and have a family, perhaps the Ridgeline is more the vehicle for you.

My needs in no real order:

    Decent fuel mileage
Being able to haul stuff periodically
    Something reliable

My regular cab Tacoma fills those needs quite well. I don't need a large vehicle being a married guy with no kids. If I ever need to get more people in the vehicle I take my wife's Rav4.
