A Few Questions about an '05 Tacoma I'm About to Buy

Hey There, I'm about to commit to an '05 Regular Cab Prerunner and have a few questions if you guys don't mind:

Am I able to put 31x10.5's on this sucker along with some suitable black wheels without having to lift/trim it? Currently, that's the size of tire I have on my '94 4x4 but they're on stock wheels (without a lift though some minor rub that never bothered me).

A few posts seemed to suggest that 16" aftermarket wheels wouldn't fit?

Also, anyone run into any trouble with the 2WD when it rains. My 4x4 slips a little so I always throw it into 4WD though it's nothing like my days in Northern Idaho when I had to sandbag the heck out of it to grip (I'm in LA now).

Welcome to TW and the only question i can answer is that i have no problems in the rain with my 2wd at all

 

yea I can't answer the rest either but +1 on rain. All my rwd cars and trucks I never had a problem with. The ranger I had, it did slip a bit in rain with the stock continental fail tires, once I put BFG AT KO's on it that was taken care of quick (even drove it on ice though I don't recommend it lol). The night I picked up the tacoma it was raining hard and I couldn't break traction (though I was limiting myself to 3k rpm on engine brake in).

 

In LA as in Louisiana? What part?

I never have problems in the rain, just fun.

ha! thanks fellas. I'm in Los Angeles. Kyouto42 your driving on ice reminds me of how we used to ebrake my '68 VW on empty, ice-covered parking lots and spin for days back in high school . . . i think that's about all that car was good for . . .

Any suggestions on tire size and wheels without having to lift/trim? Thanks as always . . .

 

31's will fit. 16" wheels will fit (as long as they have the same bolt pattern). And I leave my 4x in 2wd in rain so I don't think you'll need to worry there. Enjoy the new truck!

Also, with the 16's, I think your truck will have a 5-lug bolt pattern; so what people are refering to when they say "won't fit", they mean that the ones they want won't fit because they only come in a 6-lug pattern... I think.

 

Sweet . . . thanks fellas. If it all works out, I'll hopefully pick the tacoma up Monday. I'm pretty darn attached to my '94 4x4, but i guess it's time move forward. That truck's been so dang reliable. It's a regular cab 4x4 with a 140000 miles on it . . . dinged up in places, but runs like a champ. Do you think asking $3500 for it is too much?

 

Why not hang on to it, and keep it for a trail rig?

 

shoot, I'd love to hang on to my old truck, but I can't really afford to keep both as I prepare for grad school . . .
