I'm pro keeping him banned at minimum just because he was dumb enough to say that he didn't know what this meant.

Last I check anyone growing up in American or European countries is taught european history and World War II is a prime subject of study. So he is full of shit when he says he didn't know what it means.

I saw this on Eurosport as well.

I think he deserved the lifelong ban.

Its a symbol that has nothing but bad history,blood behind it. I dont pity the guy personally.

The hypocrosy! I'm sure you all have made racial comments in the passed and will again in the future. To friends coworkers ect... So, if you're at work and say something against another race intentionally or unintentionally, you should be fired and unable to do that job for life? Great post. And Yeah I agree Jmed, however there is also the point of this guy being a role model. A professional athlete, he should know better. I would expect the same out of any of our professional athletes, actors/actresses, professionals, politicians(can't believe I said that), military (especially dress uniformed), etc.

Free speech is great, obnoxious thing about it though is idiots get to use it too.

I didn't know that role models are exempt from free speech. Well how often do you watch Greek soccer? And are you sure it was a racial gesture? Is the swastika a racial symbol? Not until the SS demonized it. We should remember that our culture here in the "western" world is very young. The traditions and symbology of other ancient cultures like Greece are different but yet easy to exploit and demonize like the way Hitler did with traditional symbols. Just because the western media portrayed him and this as a racial gesture doesn't give me the knowledge or the right to judge and agree with punishment given. This post is like the media, stirring up crap just to give a rise and to open discussion about how controlling people want to be over others. This happened on the other side of the world and not in my back yard so I could give two shits.
Plus, who are we to judge? It's only obnoxious when you witness it and don't agree with the message. Opinions very...
