Well after having 4 different Tacoma's over the past 13yrs I finally decided to take my first 4x4 off-road today. I am not sure what I expected but I can say I am completely shocked at how well this truck performed. I was guided by a 2013 Rubicon that has been out a bunch and only had one section that I could not get (he had to use his lockers to make it).

Anyway, with that being said here are a few shots from today's fun...

Hey, it looks like you had a really enjoyable outing! Your Tacoma looks sharp, and I am glad the performance matched or exceeded your expectations. I own 2 pickup trucks, the Tacoma is my new toy (a 2013) and I took it off road on a hunting trip just a couple of weeks after I bought it. I too was extremely pleased with how it handled, and it took me everywhere I needed to go without any difficulty whatsoever. It really is a well built truck, mine has the Off Road and Towing packages in addition to 4WD, so I was pretty well set for any situation when I went up a mountainside dirt road.

The thing that impressed me the most was that it did almost everything in 2WD mode. Granted, I was just traveling on an uneven dirt road, and not rock crawling or anything too extreme, but nonetheless it had all the torque and power to do it, and only required 4WD at one muddy spot to get where I needed to get to.

My other truck is getting old, it is a 1991 Chevy K1500 Silverado, and it is still a capable truck, but it usually needed to be in 4WD to go to the mountain top where I hunt at. The Tacoma did it faster and easier, and never struggled anywhere along the line. I hope you continue to enjoy yours as I am mine.

    Thanks for the compliments.

The best part of the day was when my buddy got out of his Rubicon and noted that the only section I could not make was where his lockers came into place.

Watching the front end of your expensive rig disappear into nowhere land is a pucker factor I have rarely felt. Each and every time 4LO pulled me through without hesitation. I am pretty certain if I would of aired down or increased my climb speed/momentum I could have made that one section but it wasn't worth it. I am definitely hooked on the technical stuff.

Nice! I have yet to get rid of my mall crawl status.
Only thing people do around here is go mudding, I don't like what that can do to a vehicle.

    Thanks!

It took a lot for me to follow him for several reasons (a heavy car payment being a notable one). I guess I never realized what can be done because I usually end up focusing on how many things people break on their excursions.

Haha, yea it looks like its in its natural habitat. People break stuff when the trails start to get a lot more demanding.

My hunting buddies were saying a new off road truck hasn't been fully tested until it has been christened with mud and blood. The Tacoma passed both tests this past season. :D

Here are a few more shots of the Rubicon since I was the one holding the camera most of the time.

That was the theme of the day... Technical calling and spotting (I am going to dream about hearing DRIVER - PASSENGER - DRIVER called out)

I WISH!!! I only wish I had a job that would afford such additions
