Kona, on that page I linked to, what I did was buy the snap mag pouches and cut the snaps off and made my own bungie mag pouches. I will take a pic of my rig when I get home tonight. I also have some of the pouches on another rig that you are looking at, I will just take a pic of all of my set ups and you can decide for yourself which one you like better. Or you may not like any at all.
My wife has family on the Big Island, so I will help you out any way possible.

My rig that I cut the pouches and made bungee total cost was about 45.00 for the whole rig:

I like the 3 mag holders. It gives you 90 rounds, when I go hog hunting, I may be out there all day/night, I dont have to worry about going back to the camp to get more ammo. The green rig can handle 47/74/AR mags, but that gets pretty heavy. I usually use one of the pouches as a holster for my CZ. The desert camo rig is strictly for AR mags, they are deep pockets so the curvature on the 74 and 47 dont work too well in that one.

So guys, I turn 21 at te end of this summer, and I'm starting to research a pistol for me (will be carried with a ccw)

Right now my list of options sits like this

A 1911, I will get a full length barrel with the commander length grip (or is it the other way around lol)

A stoeger cougar 8040, which I have shot and really like

A .357 revolver, though I'm unsure on type

I will have all of these and more eventually, but that is my current list. I'm just wanting to figure out what I need to save up for

I'm thinking about giving myself a 1000$ budget for gun, and holster (leaning desantis or crossbreed)

Anyone got any other pistol ideas for me?

I have shot a sig 220 and liked it, so I am also looking at a sig, I just want to shoot whatever I want to carry first

I really like 1911s and the rotating. Barrel system on the stoeger. I liked the berretta px4 storm that has the rotating barrel. I would go with the stoeger first though for the steel....I like steel (and other alloys)

What I don't like: glocks, ruger lc9 (couldn't hit worth a damn), the Springfield xd, and a few other polymer guns.

My 2 cents is to buy the lightest, smallest gun that meets your minium criteria for capacity and caliber. In my estimation, about 75% of people who buy a full size gun for CCW plan to carry it often to always, and end up carrying it rarely to never.

Then again, if you are buying a gun to shoot and will only carry it in the truck or occassionally on your person, there's nothing wrong with a full size gun.

You asked about metal framed guns - you might add a Kahr T9, Kimber Solo, Colt Mustang and Sig P238. There's the Sig P230/P232 if you like the PPK look (or you can just go buy a PPK).

I forgot to add, I'm looking for at smallest 9mm Makarov, but would really like .40 or 45 (I'm one of those guys lol)

I'll carry it reguardless of weight, if I have the opportunity to carry I will, I don't carry about the weight......I can't stand them tiny subcompact guns. I lean towards one size down from full size though....or possibly a revolver...if I can't solve someting in 6 shots, I either shouldn't be carrying or I'm in enough trouble that more ammo probably won't help me. I really need to find a way to get ahold of a couple Sigs to shoot.

when I walk around the woods, I have a ruger MKIII with a 6 7/8 barrel (read heavy) on my belt, it doesn't bother too much, except for causing my belt to flex out and be annoying. I will actually be getting a proper belt with a stiffener in it (or a saddleback leather tow belt....which is like .25 inch thick)

I will also pick up an NAA 22 mag for shits and giggles as well as for a way to carry when I can't pull off my usual carry gun (read beach time, etc..)

oh, and if I get a pistol just for shooting, I'm gonna get a Jericho in 9mm...or a deasert eagle in .357 mag (why? because I can)

I'm not a small guy, so it is a bit easier for me to conceal. That being said, I can hide most handguns fairly well. I managed to conceal my mother's walther pk380 while I was in gym shorts....while they were looking for it, because it had disappeard from the case on the way to the range

I do like the PK 380

My current list of things to shoot stand like this

walther of some sort (in at least 9mm, preferably 40 or 45...)
    a few different sigs
    A commander and a defender size 1911 (possibly a sig 1911)

also, I have a relative who works for a wilson combat dealer....if I can get a good deal through them, I will just get a commander or defender wilson.....but I doubt that will happen.

Sounds like you know what you're looking for then. If you find a Walther 45 to shoot let me know. ;) Defender size 1911s are flirting dangerously with your tiny gun rule. Other than that, have at it!

Thanks, I'm mainly looking for recommendations that fall into my needs/wants, my only problem is, there are so many out there, it's easier to ask what people can recomend.

And I know the defender size 1911 gets close to my tiny gun rule, I haven't shot one yet, but I'm hoping that it being steel and a therefore heavier than the plastic it won't be as bad.

And to find a 45 Walther I would have to find an sw99 chambered in 45, it was made, but not a lot of them

by the way, anyone got any opinions on .357 sig?

I know next to nothing about it other than it is based off the .40 case

..well if crazyengineer is looking for recommendations i'd gladly offer mine, although w/ the caveat that "free advice" is just that... :D

...polymer guns (in service calibers) rule... why? ...the form and simplicity of function, the reliability, make them well suited for "modern pistolcraft"...

...for concealment, most polymer guns don't have a lot of sharp edges, long beavertails, that some other styles do...

...also, don't go too small, ...some of the ultra compact pistols are not pleasant to shoot - bad ergonomics, bad sight radius, bad sights, and some "brands" can be very "finicky" - not something i'd want to rely on for SD...

...but in the end, you'll have to try different types of handguns out to find out what is "right" for you... take a "firstshots" or similar handgun101 (not the CCW class) type class where you get classroom and range time w/ shooting different types...

    good luck!

does a friend who is (was?) an NRA pistol instructor count?

I will be doing a lot more training than just him and my CCW class. Thankfully I am already comfortable with basically any handgun you put in my hands. I can shoot them well if I take my time. Some handguns I can shoot well even if I don't take my time, My Ruger MKIII and a friends Stoeger cougar 8040 and full size 1911 are good examples of this.

also, anyone got an opinion on the .357 sig caliber?

I know next to nothing about it, except that it is based off a .40 case
