Not sticking up for Ford by any means, but a first year car is not usually a good idea. My parents learned that one the hard way with the '81 Escort..the one that had fires when filling the gas tank. I don't think I'd ever buy Ford anyways, after the horror show with the early Explorers.

I bought my 2010 last October for $17k. Only had 6600 miles and 2 small scratches. I traded in my 2006 Chevy Colorado with 81K that stickered for just under $20k and got $6500. Now, realize that 2 months prior the Colorado got:

    New cylinder head, valves, etc.
    New timing chain and gears.
    New cam.

The Colorado was 4 wheel drive, regular cab, and was cherry for being 7 years old since it only had 5 yrs of service time. I was thrilled to get that for it after just going through the engine nightmare.

The quality of the truck really hasn't changed, CR is just retarded is all.

Toyota does not need Consumer Reports to sell its Tacomas, their reputation and repeat owners is what sells Tacomas. Next to nothing has changed in quality in the last 7 years with the exception of a few TSB's.

My month-old PreRunner is my first 2WD Toyota (3 previous were 4WD), but I had it off road this past weekend. Not anything even remotely challenging, but it did deliver my dirt bike and me far enough into the boonies to be unobtrusive.

My feeling is, if you're going to comment/report on a vehicle with off-road features & capabilities (i.e. 4WD, high ground clearance & long travel suspension), you should have SOME knowledge and or experience in off-roading. Else you're speaking with no frame of reference...in other word...he's talking out his ass.

    The '91 wasn't any better.
Trans took a shit at 30k.
Timing belt went at 60k (70k service interval)... figured the replacement would be good to 130k? Nope... it went at 120k. Replaced it, found the water pump was leaking, and the trans was stuttering and getting ready to die again.

I ditched the car and bought my '94 Toyota p/u.

Same here. My ex had an '89 and the tranny died at 90k.

Same thing with the timing belt, although that was partially her fault. 2 weeks prior the water pump popped and I begged her to have the belt changed at the same time. She didn't listen and paid for it.

    Somewhat of an inside joke.
It's not exactly inside to just me and Oz, but if you weren't involved in a particular thread, you wouldn't get it.

Could you make the arguement that a Prerunner is better in snow than a SoCal snowmobile ?

Ok we all know.. that this truck may be in a similar category as the ridgeline.. but as a buyer, it's not even on the radar. The frontier? oh please

Only if you're wearing a chartreuse dirt bike helmet with a snowflake sticker on the back.
