Just started doing it myself a few oil changes ago. Surprised at how easy it is...and I am not a technically proficient mechanic by any means.

Toyota care, then I'll do it myself. Thinking about getting 6 toyota filters and crush washers at the next oil change to do it myself. Prob run mobile 1 synth.

I was always told to tighten your oil filter with your weak hand. Ive done this for years on several vehicles and never had one seize or leak. On the taco with this method I only need minimal help with a filter wrench before I can remove it by hand.

I pre-fill the filter (can't do that on the 4.0), get it started on the threads and run it down to contact.
I then back it off a turn, and, using the weight of the oil like a flywheel, give it a flick.
I then run it down about 3/4 turn (by hand only).

Some of this Some of that
I prefer doing it myself, i would never trust a jiffy lube to touch my truck. I guess it's not a bad idea to take it to the stealership if you don't feel like doing it, they do a 26 point vehicle check fo' free!

I've been taking mine to the dealer lately, it's cheaper to have them do it ($24 the last 2 times) than it is for me to buy the oil and filter.

I do my own oil changes. The assholes at Jiffy Lube, Quaker State, and etc as part of the oil change and lube are supposed to grease ball joints and etc. My 2006 Tacoma has sealed ball joints and tie rod ends. However the drive shaft does have u-joints with zerks. After oil changes at their disreputable businesses I have checked and the u-joints are no grease on the zerks and those morons will say, "There isn't anything to grease on the your truck."

Same thing with my 1990 S-10 4x4 blazer. Morons never greased anything even though they were paid to change oil and said that they would grease the truck.

Since then I don't trust those assclowns.

Toyota took care of my oil changes free for the first couple years but now i do all my own maintenance. I really don't trust anyone else to do it "right"...
