CB stealth install..

-Cobra 75 CB
-4 foot firestik II tuneable antenna
-Firestik Stainless steel quick release
-BAMF antenna/flag mount
-Procomm 18 ft coax with antenna stud.. ring connector.. and removable connector

all said and done was about $200 for everything shipped

When im not on a road trip the antenna goes behind the back seats.. and the CB also goes behind the back seats in a storage compartment. I'll get day light pictures next nice day.. also going to tune it tomorrow. havent transmitted yet but reception is fantastic even untuned.

I got power for the CB from the cig lighter (had to take most the dash apart to get behind that dumb thing).. ran the coax up under the driver seat then under the carpet to the console... took out the seat made it much easier. The BAMF mount hit the gate.. took a lot of heating/beated to get it to fit and clear the bed side and gate while holding the antenna level/straight. wish i didnt pay for the powder coat since i had to repaint it anyway. This set up will also work nice with my bestop supertop on this summer.









for this install the following had to be removed.
- Center Console
- Gear shift knob
- Trim around gear shift
- Cup holders
- Glove box
- fuse box cover/coin tray
- Compartment to the right of steering wheel
- Upper dash trim on left side
- Trim around gauges
- temp/ fan controls
- Radio stack/trim
- Vents/ 4wd trim either side of radio
- Lower center dash trim (TO GET TO THE CIG LIGHTER FOR POWER!)
- Tail light
- Drivers seat
- Drivers front door sill trim
- Drivers front kick panel
- Drivers front dead pedal

 

Looks good. I have the same cb, but with a 3' firestick. Works very well

 

Let me know what your SWR is. I'm looking at installing a CB. Same type setup. With no ground plane I'd be pleasantly surprised if yours below 1.5 on 1 and 40. Looking at roof top magnet mounts, but if your's works I'll probably go with that. Thanks.

 

i'll post the results tomorrow... I thought about a 3 foot and still think it would look better then the 4 foot. figured since it's only for road trips i might as well get the taller antenna for 'maybe' some more performance. If i end up wheeling my truck sooner or later i'll pick up a smaller antenna/spring combo to avoid some trees

 

got it tuned today. didnt mess with the antenna at all.. straight from how it came from firestik we got a 1.1 SWR on chan 1 and 1.2 SWR on chan 40. really happy with the results. transmits crystal clear and receives great.

i also made a cover/cap to go over the quick disconnect when the antenna is off. just used a piece of 5/8 inside diameter clear plastic pipe.. a brass insert into the tube and a plastic cap threaded on that. gave it a light coat of black to blend in. it worked perfectly to go over the 16mm hex at the bottom.

Never seen this done the way you did it and I have to say this looks great!!! How long did it take you to do? And did you have anyone else helping you?

 

thanks.. i did it all my self.. in that parking lot. except for running the coax i did that in my buddy's garage... but still myself. all said and done probably took 6 hours. would take WAY less time to do it again. Well the only thing i didnt do myself was check the tuning because i dont have an SWR meter so i took it to a CB guy for that

 

That's a very clean install. Even a ham radio guy would be hard pressed to make a better, cleaner installation than that. Good work.

just an update on this CB set up. It worked flawlessly for my 1200 mile road trip. I was able to transmit and receive at least 13 miles away at one point (could've been further didnt try.. that was based on mile markers). Talking over it 13 miles away was crystal clear both transmitting and receiving. couldnt be happier with this set up and i strongly suggest it to anyone looking for a CB

Galaxy dx 98vhp with willson 5000 antenna 600 amp battery under the seat for the built in amplifier 4 to 300 watts.

 

i got mine put under neath the driver seat it works pretty good

Did the same but mine is in the center console. With a 4' firestik also but tomorrow I'm installing a 3' instead. My swr with the 4' was 1.2 on 1 and 1.3 on 40 and 1.0 on 19. I'm sure it'll still be below 1.5 with the 3' antenna.

OP, did the connection in the console there come with the Cobra or was that something extra you had to buy?
