This. Just because the tacoma is smaller than the tundra, doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to get the same features on it. That's kinda like toyota offering an ok 4runner, but only the sequoia having the mac daddy options (leather, auto everything, whatever else) just because the sequoia is bigger. not everybody wants or needs the larger size, but they might still want the options.

I have a pretty loaded truck with the nav/entune/4x4 etc, but I of course would like better gas mileage...

Factory options that would be cool:

Old fashioned 4runner style rear window that the whole thing rolls down, not just a little portion.

    Factory sunroof option

    Factory truck cap options

center console power and audio ports

Full skidplates from Toyota on 4x4 model option

    Locking tailgate

That's about it.. I don't care about heated mirrors, cargo light, power seats, heated seats, leather seats etc. I am glad I don't have to pay extra because I would never use those and don't want to pay for them.

Just drove my Tacoma home tonight. I bought the truck because of the MPG's it gets and the resale value. I do believe that Toyota could increase the MPG's and the stereo should have satellite radio option. I do like the idea of a moonroof too. But overall, I like the truck.

I didnt go threw and read all posts, but i love my taco, but heres what i wish it had
-locking rear diff in 2hi like any silverado, f-150, s-10, blazer, and all them have/had
    -powersliding rear window
-HEATED MIRRORS!!!! (had freezin rain last night, so couldnt see crap)
-tilt wheel that went up about an inch higher for my long ass legs
-map lights that work with door ajar lighting
-lights that turn on when ingition is turned off
-auto lock/unlock when shifted to or from park
-battery volts and a tranny temp gauge
-tow haul mode or manual shift opition like tundra has
-160amp alternator!!! (pulling a trailer with blowers and headlights on it one heck of a draw on the system!!!)
    -4.10 gearing with a 6 speed auto
-goodyear duratracs with a 5 leaf rear for off-road edition!
    -hood scoop on all tacos

i think that about sums it up, and all reasonable items in my book

I agree on the MPG potential.. there ought to be some benefit in driving a smaller/lighter truck.. but oh well. Same with the sunroof.. I like em.

As for the sat radio option, mine has satellite radio stock along with the navi?

I realize that you don't always want to pay for the 4k option packages, but rather would like to truly be able to "build your own" taco. It sucks that you have to choose the package that includes the features you want, not the individual features. oh well..

Some of these posts are cracking me up! Lol seems like everyone is asking for things like motors out of huge trucks (that get like 10 mpg) and then asking for better MPG at the same time. Lets be reasonable here people... Haha so far a lot of great suggestions tho, rear discs, power seats, heated mirrors, etc. these all seem plausible even likely in the near future. However SFA? 6.5L diesel? LOL

Don't need a lot of the stuff mentioned. A little power, higher MPGs (full size are catching up), BED LIGHT, a full four feet between wheel wells. People mentioned bigger. If you want more space buy a Tundra.

And a more aggressive tire option especially on 4x4s. I am buying in a few months and trying to figure out what I am going to do. Last 4x4 I bought the dealer wanted a grand and they got to keep the stock tires. I told them where they could put those tires.

majority cosmetic things like heated mirrors, leather seats, auto lights etc are available as options.
Do search on TW for those items there are plenty people who installed them so if you want one just install it.
Just because its not listed in Toyota book does not mean it does not exists.

I'd like to see engine and vehicle information available on the touch screen, for instance, tire pressures in real time, better mileage info in real time, engine vitals, etc on the display if wanted.

Power sliding rear window or full power rear window.
Available heated mirror and seat options.
5+ way power adjustable drivers seat option.
    Sunroof option.
    Rear facing bed light option.
    Diesel power plant option
    Factory locking tailgate option
Auto headlights and windshield wipers option
    Better, stronger paint jobs
.50 cal bed mounted gun option

    +1 on the vehicle info.

I hate TPMS, but if I don't get a choice of not to get the sytem in the first place when buying the truck at least tell me the tire pressures in real time.

A payload scale in the bed of the truck would be cool too..

I am happy with my 2012 Access Cab Tacoma 4x4. I have done some mods to make it more "mine", but I would like Toyota to offer a diesel engine option if it would seriously increase the MPG to say at least 25mpg combined city/hwy and have good torque for off-road use.

That's a terrible analogy. So someone who wants say a sunroof should have to bump up to a Tundra crewmax? Again unless you're talking about engine or towing options its a stupid point to suggest mid size trucks shouldn't have basic upgrades available. If you're content with a bare bones truck like was pictured more power to you. But thats not what the average consumer wants.

Compact cars often have HIDs and navigation and heated seats etc etc. I suppose those cars shouldn't have that because the customer could have went elsewhere and paid $20k more for a BMW.

More MPG. Full size trucks are getting just as good or more MPG than our little 6cy...

Power rear sliding glass like the Tundra.

Completely don't understand why any one would want diesel on a Tacoma. The only thing I would use diesel for is the extra torque for towing. Maybe a better alternative fuel option would be CNG (compressed natural gas)
    Realistically better mpg
