    Take the rear drive shaft out of a 4X4 put it in 4WD with an open rear it will still go further then the 2WD it all about the weight on the drive wheels.

    And why do these threads always come up? No a locked 2wd is better than an open 4wd in no situations. Not only do you have drive wheels on both frot and rear axles but you also have the option to use 4lo, which gives you much more control

    I can think of a couple situations, but a little speed would fix the problem for the open/open 4x4 easy enough. haha

    2) 2WD limited slip diff, with regulation (TRAC)
    3) 2WD limited slip diff, no engine regulation (AUTO LSD)
    4) 2WD locked diff
    5) 4WD open diffs
    6) 4WD limited slip diffs (TRAC)
    7) 4WD A-TRAC (automatic 'locker-like' diffs)
    8) 4WD A-TRAC with locking rear diff
    9) 4WD front and rear locking diffs (NOT available from Toyota in North America)
