i think that having to negotiate balance/momentom while off roading with some good clutch/throttle work, makes off roading more of skill thing vs a equipment thing….. NOT SAYING that those with auto dont have skill or that manual makes up for equipment…. (making it clear b4 any one starts beefing) :D

right now… I currently drive a 5 speed civic that I've had since '03 and Im waiting on delivery of my 6 speed taco.

I know what you're saying. Chances are I won't do it since finding a trans for $300 around here is probably impossible. Not much for any salvage parts within 200 miles.

Pretty much on hold until it warms up (still 20 degrees out) and I can get my bumper off for mounting bracket measurements. Not sure if I will have time before I leave town for the summer so that might not get done any time soon either. Such is life though. I am going to see about cutting a 3/16" skid plate this weekend though.

Because pushing in the clutch takes so much more effort than pushing a button:rolleyes: I try to avoid the Southern bumper haha:D Just pisses my wife off. haha
Yeah it can definitely make it more challenging but I don't think that is worth it. I like being able to go try any obstacle I want to. I've seen guys in manuals avoid obstacles and just say, when I have a crawl box I'll come back. Really all a crawl box does it make your vehicle operate more similarly to an auto tranny anyway. haha

For a 2nd gen, my rear bumper has held me up more than my bullbar on the factory bumper ever did... Our ass end just hangs low... haha I imagine a 1st gen can be similar but it doesn't hang nearly as low as a 2nd gens.
    Nice job man!

x2! I don't know the first thing about designing a bumper let alone how to use a welder... I sure wish I did though...

Oh and you need to update your sig pic! I had no idea you had a plate bumper. haha Although I'm guessing it isn't on yet, since you have a pile of parts waiting for you.
MT rocks! I just wish I had the money to go LT now instead of having to wait...

Even if you can't design in modeling software, I bet you can build one out of cardboard... Just measure and cut until the parts fit like you imagine in your head. Use rectangles for easiness. Then you can easily transfer than into steel without ever using a computer.

    My House Usually
Rear bumpers...I've got a Brute Force rear currently in the making. $600 + shipping. One of the best prices that I was able to find. Billy of BFF has been great to work with so far.

The custom stuff is fun, all my current stuff is custom (rear bumper [monstrostiy], front bumper and tube-gate. I didn't technically "build" any of it, but I designed all of it and had to figure out how to make it all work. A fab shop cut/bent what tubing I needed and they also welded everything together.

My rear is a joke, it's obvious it was the first time I had ever done anything like that. Then the front tube got better, then a little better on the tube-gate.

I've grown a little tired of being and looking like a cheap ass with the truck. I want a truck that looks...professional, not covered in some of my janky creations. I'm artsy as fuck at heart, asthetics are huge for me, and I love the way the truck looks but it just looks amatuerish. Fuck, I've deleted and redone my build thread twice (on my 3rd) b/c I don't like the way it looked, had horrible flow to them and got tired of all my pics having 1/??/2007 in them, fuck resetting the damn date with new batteries.

When the new rear gets here, I'm going to take a good look at redoing the tube-gate. There is a jeep/fab shop a few shops down from mine, and they could fab up a nice looking tire gate/mount. They just cut the whole back end off (frame and all) a co-workers 87 Yota and totally rebuilt the frame and put a flatbed on it. Looks pretty good.
