    +1

The person that drove it the 250 miles probably does dealer swaps all the time. Also tearing up a new truck would be an employees ass. Most people are not going to risk their job to trash a vehicle. I was a service writer for Ford and drove so many new vehicles it was just another day. Look at the truck if it looks good it probably is. Check the tires make sure the nipples are still on them just do some inspecting. Common sense kind of stuff, like my old man used to say "use your head".

There's your answer my friend. Not only should you not buy this truck - I would NEVER deal with them again.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
This, 170k miles later, I still remember the 13 mine had on it, but it doesn't bother me anymore. I know I'm the only driver of this truck.

My truck had about 175 miles on it when I purchased it...it was the only 2012 in the area when they first came out that had the options I wanted. They drove it in from another dealer. As long as those miles aren't test drive miles I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's not like the Tacoma's are sports cars. Just check for mud ;) Less then 500 miles is nothing...you will probably do far worse to your truck over the time you own it.

Even then, most dealers go with you these days...only a few times have I test drove a new car by myself....one time because It was only a two seater and my father came with. :burnrubber: with < 20 miles.:D

your warranty starts at whatever mileage is on the odometer when you purchase it. I wouldn't worry about it, if you don't buy it someone else will. look it over good for rock pecks after clean up, that and door nicks are about I would worry about. almost forgot, no smoking in vehicle.

Act like you really don't like it, but buy the truck anyway, and they should try to sweeten the deal to make you happy :D You might get something free out of it or a small price break.

On the one hand, no big deal.

On the other hand, a lot of people (myself included) prefer to go by a fairly specific set of rules about break-in, and the most important break-in occurs before 50-100 miles. Maybe the dealership drivers go by "break in" rules too, but maybe not.

That's probably more an emotional response than a reasoned one. I'm sure there's virtually zero chance that anything bad actually happened during the drive up. Probably a bored retired guy listening to AM radio for a few hours.

Seeing how you are new to this forum. After you spend more time on here you're probably gonna mod, lift, put bigger tires, offroad it anyways. That first 250 miles will probably be the easiest miles it will ever see.

Guess they did not have what you wanted so they sent an employee 500 miles to get it for you and now your mad? Would you have asked a friend to drive 10 hours so you could put the 250 miles on your self? It common practice that's how dealers make deals for some thing as simple as a color. None of the dealers in southern Maine had what I wanted they went to Mass. to get it for me no charge.

I work hard for my $. And these trucks aren't cheap. If it didn't feel right then I would have pulled the plug too. It's sucks cause you had your heart set on this one. But it will be worth the wait for the next one. Trust me. I waited a month or so for my exact options package to be built and I'm so glad I did. 2 miles on the clock when I headed down the road. Couldn't be happier. Could've settled for something close, but I held out and have no regrets. Take that time to save up a little more down payment cash.

I worked for a GMC truck dealership a few years back. We used to do truck trades all the time. We had 3 retired old men on call to run the trades for us. They were great. Not only did they drive the trucks from other dealerships, they would note any squeeks, rattles or any other problems when they checked them in. Buy the truck. I am sure they don't have teenagers doing their swaps.

Mine had 300 miles on it when I bought it new, it's original dealership was in Pennsylvania and I bought it in West Virginia. It didn't bother me at all that it had those miles, I now have 46K on the truck with no problems. I was told Toyota dealerships trade new vehicles back and forth with other Toyota dealerships.

What mine said when I got into to test drive....well needless to say that's what sold me on mine. I was driving by when they were unloading it and I thought we'll let's take a look.

^ would love to see that. I am sure it wont happen. Would be much easier if I was looking for something more common I am sure. The salesperson emailed me this morning and asked if I would still be interested in the truck if they could get it without the miles. I said under 10 miles and I will buy it no problem.

From what I've seen, some miles on a "new" vehicle is quite common. When I do a test drive, I will put about 30 miles on a vehicle, and I don't always buy that one. Dealers don't seem to be bothered by that.

About 15 years ago, Colorado changed its laws regarding miles on new vehicles. Prior to the law change, if a vehicle had over 200 miles, it couldn't be sold as new. Now its 2000 miles, as long as its never been sold/registered before.

OTOH, years ago (1960s) my father drove cars between dealers (for "dealer swaps") for the local Chevy dealership. His drives were usually 200-300 miles each way, but the speedometers were always disconnected (can't do that now). We lived in Yuma, AZ and he usually drove to Phoenix, LA or San Diego. Anyway, he drove the snot out of those cars (he got paid for the trip, not an hourly rate). They once had him drive a Corvette and he knocked almost an hour off his usual drive time to LA.
