Pleasantly Surprised

So I got my Taco a week ago tomorrow. Picked it up with 85 miles on the clock. Turned 600 today. Burned my first FULL tank and filled up again on my way home today. Primarily highway driving, I drove 267 miles and filled up with 13.89 gallons. This equals roughly 19.2mpg. Absolutley blew my mind. One of the things that got me hooked on the Taco was fuel mileage. I mean 20mpg out of a 4X4 double cab is pretty damn good. I can only imagine how much better it will get as it breaks in. I would love 21-22+. But am not gonna complain about what I am getting. Most of the driving was 65-70 mph with the cruise set. But I am ecstatic.

 

Nice! Toyota's have a very nice MPG rating as compared to some other POS Ford or Chevy.

 

Er, unless I'm missreading something but.. 13.8 gallons is hardly a full 21gallon tank.

Still, pretty decent millage, better than I get but I drive it like I stole it.

 

i just calculated it up today, and about a 1/2 tank, i get 16mpg

 

Er, I hope you didn't go by the fuel gauge because it's horribly inaccurate.

 

That fits with the 17-18 city/22-23 hwy that I get.

 

65-70 mph is a good fuel milage speed once you get to 75-80 it really goes south.

 

haha yeah it is, i think Toyota tried to make it seem like they would save more gas as when you fill up it stays on F til about 70 miles and then starts going down. I think they did it on purpose to give the image that its SAVING gas and has a better MPG rate then other trucks when really it is but NOT as good as it shows.

 

To the OP, are you driving the 4 or 6 cylinder?

Haha, Every vehicle I've driven has done that.

 

Mine is the 6. I couldn't imagine having a truck of this size and weight with a 4 banger. Nothing against 4 bangers, I have just found they don't provide the power that is needed in most cases.

Just filled up today, 19.1 city driving with the air on! I can handle that.

 

Yea, so far I have gotten 19 and 20 MPG, I go by my ODO and the amount of gallons put into the tank.

So, I am happy with that. Hell, like everyone says, if I wanted/expected 25+ MPG I would have a car.

 

Yea, I think if I took it REALLY easy... like total grandmother mode.. I could hit 23.

 

I did 80mph (avg) from Las Vegas to San Diego w/ an extra 400lbs of cargo (minus myself) and got 20mpg w/ my 4x4 DC. I was impressed since I was really hauling.
