60+ year old thread.

Mark, the Missus and I have been traveling for 30 years. She works in the medical field and has heard from so many people that they intended to travel when they retired but due to medical issues they can't. That's when we decided to start traveling. We did without a lot of things in our early years, but do enjoy traveling. We camped around the States until the kids were grown and didn't want to go with us anymore, now we travel abroad. Sometimes life doesn't allow you to do the things you want (work, family, etc.), but if you can, don't wait. Just my opinion.

 

I wish I could get my wife to travel light Tom. I always use a back pack for a carry on and then a suitcase that is checked. This trip I am going to try to use a back pack and a small suitcase like the one you are looking into. Try TJ Maxx or Marshalls Home Goods for suitcases or carry on bags. They have a pretty good assortment and the prices are good. With having damage done to some of our bags that the airlines won't cover(read their policy on baggage damage) we don't like to spend a lot of money on luggage.

Murano is a pretty island and the glass shops are very colorful. Good photo ops abound. Look into getting the Vaporetta( water bus) pass for the number of days you will be in Venice. Best way to get around.

 

We did quite a lot when I was in the Army, and got out quite a bit until about 5 years ago. Since then we've been providing care for my mom (after a stroke) and Lynn's parents (her dad is 89 and lost a leg to diabetes two years ago; her mom is 87 and has some minor health issues; both are at home and her dad needs a daily insulin shot). So, we've not been able to get away for any amount of time since then.

Having gone through care giving issues with my father I know how you feel. I was very lucky to have 2 sisters that lived close by. Between the three of us my father always had someone looking out for him.

 

Happy to hear Lynn is doing better and for an easy recovery from the stent removal.

Good to hear Lynn is doing pretty good. One more thing to go through, and hopefully the problem is all in the past and she will be comfortable again.

The Coo Coo clock is an antique and was my grandmothers, that's why I'm willing to keep it in repair. Just like Mark is saying, the guys that can work on them are getting harder and harder to find.

 

I understand what you have Mark, for years we took care of the wife's uncle then her parents. Fortunately for us we had family close by so we could still get away. Prayers for the Lynn's stent removal that all goes well.

Back on the wall!
Just when I walked in to pick it up the clock guy said just in time, and the clock went off for 12:00. Almost like it was greeting me.
Also, was talking about the pocket watch that I posted a pic. of. I had shown it to him soon after he repaired the coo coo the first time. He said it would cost app. 7K+ to get it cleaned and lubed, if I were to send it back to the factory.

Bumped into one of Ollie's sons this morning. (the 98-99 yr. old guy I know)
He said that his dad has the beginning stages of alzheimers. SAD!
It's being mentioned that 1 in every 3 people will develop it. Looks like he won't be getting getting a deer at 100 yrs. old.

 

Carl - sorry to hear about your friend. It is a terrible disease.

Lynn goes in for the ECRP tomorrow to remove the stent in her liver. Hopefully, it will go smoothly and the leak will have sealed. As long as all is OK she will be home tomorrow afternoon and ready to get back to a normal life.

 

Keep praying Carl, he just might make it. I will keep him in my thoughts.
I don't know where they come up with their figures, but 1 in 3 sure is scary...

Morning folks. Sorry to leave you hanging but I didn't spend much time online after we got home yesterday.

The procedure was a complete success. The doctor is superb and was very reassuring to Lynn - she was really nervous about the final procedure.

As it turned out, the procedure took less than 15 minutes - she was our of the or and in recovery quickly and after removing the stent there was no sign of leakage.

I talked to the doctor while she was in recovery and he told me to take her out and buy her lunch - which we did! She ate a good lunch and dinner and has no problems. Last night, she told me she felt better than she has in two years.

This weekend, I will be shooting in another Vintage Sniper match - this one at 300, 600 and 800 yards. I have not shot these rifles at 800 so my scope settings will be a SWAG - my team mate, though, has shot at 800 and 100 so he can give me some good intel to get started.
