MPG - 2.7L Manual 4x2

Whatever came standard on the truck P245/75R16 Tires

 

I was hoping they would find a code for a bad O2 sensor or something but everything was OK I just have to give it some time I guess.

 

See, now this makes me frustrated. I am having a hard time keeping my 2.7L around 23 MPG. You are getting 23 MPG on the highway with the V6. Remember the old V8 vegetable juice commercials? Well, "I coulda hada V6!"

I am in the same boat. I will just need to be patient and continue to take it easy until my 007 gets broken in.

OH - and in case anyone was wondering if it is my driving...

I just got back from hauling a 18,000 pound 5th wheel RV behind my father's 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually Quad Cab with the Cummins engine. On the way out to San Antonio, I got 11 MPG (it should have been more like 9 MPG). Plus, on the way back (unloaded), I got 21 MPG!!! The best my father can get out of it is 19 MPG.

 

Wow I didn't really those full size diesels were able to get MPG like that.
OK Toyota where is our turbo-diesel Tacoma or Tundra?

 

That is really good mileage for a V6 !!!

I am in the same boat as 007Tacoma and we are barely getting that with our 2.7 liter 4-cylinder 4x4.

 

I'll check it again on the next fill up and see what I get!

Another thing: I don't really have a heavy foot at take off. That might be helping...

 

Yeah, well, that is the TOP on their MPG. He usually gets 17/18 MPG.

 

As easy as I try to go on my 007, in Houston you either move or get run over. I am partial to my Tacoma, so I know where the accelerator petal is.

Most of the time, though, I will keep the petal steady at around 65-70 MPH.

 

I've been putting regular gas in my taco.. and I've been getting 22 almost 23 on my last tank full..

 

Thanks everyone-I'm about to replace my 2003 Tacoma DC w/V6 w/ a 2007. I suspected that the 4s were'nt that much better fuelwise than the V-6 and this conversation tends to back that suspicion up.
These trucks should be doing better with fuel consumption! If any truckmaker was to do better, I sure would like to see Toyota be the one.

I have an 07 2wd access w/5 spd 1600 Miles....I too am only getting 20-22 mpg I was wondering if something was wrong but I guess thats the way it goes...

I am a little bummed as I opted against the 4X4, pre-runner and the big engine because I thought I would be getting better mileage out of the 2.7, I wish I knew this before I purchased...

 

Well I filled my truck up this past Sunday... I had 360 miles to the tank and I put almost 16 gallons in the tank... so thats like 22.5 miles to the gallon..

I recently drove from KY, to Daytona, to Colorado back to GA, unless my rithmatic is bad...I averaged close to 23. something, I dropped the tailgate down and made one less stop for gas than I did when I went the opposite direction..I just get leary about dropping the tailgate...

 

i'm glad someone resurrected this...i've been noticing that my idle isn't consistant at stops...has anyone else noticed that AFTER break in? 007, has there been any change for you the more miles you've put on?

incidentally, i'm getting 17.5 MPG city/22 fwy pretty consistantly...6cyl, 2wd, access cab

 

I have noticed the surge that other people are talking about. I think it comes from the brakes being kind of soft and needing more than the average amount of pressure and my idle speed being high. I have thought about adjusting my idle speed and bringing it down a little. I have a V6 and averaged 20mpg exactly for the first tank. The second tank averaged at 18.1mpg. The averages for the other tanks have been off because of AC use and slightly harder driving. I would like better mileage but if it was a huge deal i wouldn't have bought a truck with a V6 and 4wheel drive and the quad cab. If you want milage buy a hybrid, if you wanna have fun, keep your truck and forget about how much gas it guzzles. Just be thankful your not driving a full size 1988 bronco like my brother (10.5 mpg!!!) When you buy a truck high gas bill come with the territory.

 

I am on my second oil change (synthetic) at 8000 miles. My mileage is all over the place. I have recently gotten 23MPG in town (mark=Extatic), and I got 19MPG on a trip between Houston and San Antonio! Granted, I was doing 85 MPH (family emergency – not my usual speed). If I had known that everyone was getting such better mileage out of their V6’s, I would have gotten a doublecab 4x4…

See, that is outta V6 double cab!!! I want that outta my 4 banger. Congrats to you. WTF to me…

That is really good mileage. I thought the tailgate thing had been “busted” (see Mythbusters)?

The surging went away for the most part after 6000 miles. I do notice higher idle speeds at startup, but that is to be expected. Of course, I still get dips and surges in RPM when the A/C kicks in and out…

If I had really wanted high MPGs, I would have gotten another Jetta TDI (38+ in town), but I need the utility of a truck. I am just disappointed at how “far-off” the real life MPG is compared to the sticker. Even after the new “corrected” EPA estimates that came out this year, I am still below what I should be getting. I have to admit, my MPGs are on a slow slope upward. I am just going to have to keep track of them and see where they top-off.

I will report more (my actual numbers) when I get back to Houston tomorrow…

 

I usually drive at 80-90 on the HWY (with the air on) about half of the miles driven so far are at those speeds/conditions so maybe 20-22 is not so bad....

I am going to do a serious track of mileage as I was waiting for it to be broken in to do so.....

 

I am really interested to see what kind of consistent mileage you get at 80-90 MPH. I could do that in my old TDI and still get 40 MPG, passing in the mountains, uphill, in fifth gear!

...I like my 007Tacoma better!

 

RIght at 20-22....

I cant help it...this thing likes to cruise at 90.....smooth as silk.
