Good on them. It's harder and harder to keep kids on the level in todays world - I like their approach.

I know right? That people are giving them flack for it galls me, too much of this wishy-washy 'build their self-esteem' crap, I believe in doing that too, i did it to my kid to great effect. He's an egotistical bastard with a 4.0 chem major. That's fine with me. But since you can't beat em, the only thing left is double reverse half twist child psychology. What's the most effective tool against a teen girl? Embarrass her.

I forget if it was here or FB, but I saw an article about a principal canceling "Honors Night" because he didn't want to traumatize the precious snowflakes who didn't make top grades.
Safe issue, just the other extreme.

Yeah...I gave (still give) my sister a hard time when she starts getting train wreck-ish. And when we were younger...That was like a daily occurrence.

Oh jeesh, that's like handing out trophies to everyone that shows up, "everyone is a winner!" How are you supposed to instill a desire to succeed by holding their hands??? It just makes it worse when they get out into the real world and get their asses handed to them. As an employer I can't stand these self-entitled twits. I don't higher them anymore. Give me a family man whose got bills to pay and mouths to feed, they understand.

Wow punishing those who work hard for their grades just to not offend those who don't. Granted they are excused if they are mentally incapable. But that principal is what I think is wrong with society today. I remember growing up in a third world country where bright students are encouraged to thrive and not so bright students to be weeded out to work in the rice fields.

Sad part is - That whole "the real world will eat them" maxim..is slowly dying. Lots of folks with this same "everyone wins" attitude are now middle managers and setting policy or are being given voice when they complain about injustice...Makes the slide towards "Everyone is a winner" that much more pronounced.

It's good to hear you are trying to hold your business to a better standard, but there aren't enuf guys like you.

    Yup...

Thanks Mark. The generation of my grand parents, grew up in the Great Depression, fought the Nazis in WWII, built freeway overpasses and built his own house. He understood what going hungry and having nothing is. I read a book on folks that stayed behind in the Dust Bowl, too poor to leave, talk about tough folks. If you grew up on a farm, if you don't work, you don't eat. I pounded it into my kid's head, nobody is gonna hand you shit, if you want it, you're gonna have to get it yourself.

I wish my company had that mentality. But they choose to listen only to the naggers. I don't blame my supervisors because the naggers oversteps the chain of command. Thankfully the crew I work with is free of such naggers.

What I find funnier is that most of the naggers believe they are the bright spots of the company. But I can't blame them because all they know is to kiss ass.

Yeah...My folks paid for a few things for me thru high school, but only enough for my to get to school/sports...I had to work and manage my own money past that. And my efforts in school and what not - That is what got me where I am. Same for my folks.
I'm hoping I can show my boy that same thing, cause I don't want him to be a product of a world where everyone wins.

I don't want to call it common, but I've worked with a few folks who were the same way. Not outstanding, but very loud and the result is they make a mess for everyone else.

That's good Mark, I taught mine the value of a dollar and pointed out the satisfaction of being able to do things for yourself. I have been earning money since i was 6 years old. We were never really well off, we did OK but if you wanted something, you had to earn it yourself.

My parents paid for my stuff until I was old enough to get a job. Then I paid for my own crap til today. People that don't know me thought I was spoiled because I got a brand new car in high school. Little did they know I was cleaning a hotel kitchen at 2 in the morning getting paid $200/night. And the only reason I got a car was because I didn't want to rely on my parents picking up and dropping me off to school. Didn't want to waste their time. Because you know what they say. Time is money.

I ran network cable and configured business networks during school...and lifeguarded/taught swimming at 3 different facilities 6 days a week all summer. So i got lucky like that. The cable running was nasty...Lifeguard was AWESOME.
Either way, working like that teaches tons of real life useful skills to have to manage your time, money, and energy like that.
