Incorrect, IFS did not start until 1986 in the Toyota Pickups. The 1984 and 1985 front axles are the most coveted for 1986 and new pickups SAS conversions due to the added factory truss to the axle.

Interesting... different model for the US?
The '83-'88 production years were the same "generation"... but I definitely remember different bed styles between the early and late models.

Either way, an '87 wasn't factory, or that's not exactly what it is represented to be. Given the mileage is in km, it may be an "export" model.

No telling where it's from then. Eastern Canada, France, South America... possibly Southeast Asia.

IFS started in 1986. Hence the high prices for 1985 Toyota 4x4 pickups. Only year with FE and SA. If I'm wrong, then TW has failed me.

Ordered my lift kit last night. Ended up getting the 2" package from Toytec with BJ spacers and AAL. Since my rear end is a little saggy (by 2"), I also ordered a 2" shackle lift. That should level me out pretty good. Before and after pics to follow soon!

Correct, back in the day toyota was having rust issues when the trucks were shipped from Japan via ships the Japanese style beds would rust out on the way over to the us. That's why the Japanese style bed is a little less common.
Toyota fixed this problem with the rust issue with the beds by shipping the truck over with out beds on them and finishing the truck when it got to the us by putting on the "American style" beds on the trucks.

'79-83' are considered 1st gen pickups, '84-'88 are 2nd gen trucks etc. The 4 runners which started in '84-'89 are considered a 1st gen 4 runners, kinda confusing.

There were also import tariff issues.

Trucks imported from Japan without the beds were not considered complete.
Making the final assembly point in the US avoided import duties.

1977 FJ40 , still runs/drives just fine despite the awesome amount of care by previous owners , let alone the stupid olive drab paint job . Slowly undoing all the PO's mods over the years , pretty much a daily driver .

One thing I recently noticed. My truck has the mirrors of a pre-'89 truck (the chrome ones with the big arm that loops around the bottom). But it's a 1990. Anyone ever seen this?

So after a couple of highway drives, I found I am averaging 11 mpgs. I read to replace the o2 sensor and to check for vacuum leaks. Already changed all fluids. Have spark plugs and fuel filter to change this weekend. Any other ideas?

11 mpg highway?! Hmm...something's weird there. Are you lifted much? I've heard that drops you down some. I have the same engine and I get like 14 city and 17 highway, but that's on stock suspension so I have a lower profile. Maybe tire pressure, though? Or just old/bad tires? When I got new tires a few years ago my mpg increased by about 1.5.

Actually I am not lifted at all. The kit just came in but I haven't put it on yet. Tires are brand new so that's not it. Guess I will just keep weeding stuff out. Thanks for the ideas though.
