    I have done it.

For now it's on a cheap 25 cents lever switch but I am trying to source a factory switch (it's $40) to put under the radio

I took pictures of the current setup when I finally added the switch and the diode so it works like factory except when the switch is on (if you put power all time-on, the camera shuts off after 5 minutes)

I'll post the pics as soon as they are transferred.

Looks like you have to be a member to view the post (at least from the link provided). I am very interested in this mod as I've thought to myself, that mofo is awfully close to my rear, I wonder just how close, now if only my rear view camera could work now...

wanted to know if anyone knows what wire in the rear view mirror connector is the 12v hot wire for when the vehicle is turned on. I'm also wondering if any of you have found a good wiring diagram or chilton for our truck that has all the major and minor electrical systems in it.

I don't have a wiring diagram for the '09 but you can easily find online diagrams for the '05 to '08.

You can easily find the hot wire with a multimeter. We have decided to not use it because it's not a good power source (probably very very low power going through there)

Does anyone mind telling me why you need it on when not in reverse? Does it help you see any blinds spots of anything?

Oh to find out the hard way..... if your planning on doing this mod do not jump the 1st wire (green) and the 3rd wire (red) with just a straight wire, you need a switch so you don’t send 12v back to the truck. I read that I would get a red R light and reverse lights if I did that, which is no big deal if your just testing it in your driveway, right?, well not only did that happen but now my CEL is on as well as my traction control light..... I disconnected my battery while I’m at work and ill see if the computer resets itself... if not i guess im going to my local Auto Zone to use their OBX 2 code reader to see if i can reset it myself.

    Wish me luck.

I don't remember touching anything else than the red one.

Yes you need to put a diode, or your rear lights and the red R will be lit. What I have done before installing the diode was to connect the 12v only to the mirror, and not to the truck... Then when I put the diode in I finally had it working as normal and a separate switch.

Unfortunately, the guy that took the pics deleted them so I have to remove the cover and take new ones.

the reset worked. i plan on using a selector switch. (i think that's what it is called, it has 3 posts and the middle one is a common. the other two are the selectable sources.) and that should do the trick without installing a diode.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
On my new Eclipse AVN726E...since my Boyo VTL-300 is not Eclipse friendly I have it set up to constant on. On my old Alpine IVA-D900 I had it set up to reverse on and constant on if I wanted too and still have music playing...Sadly on my new Eclipse since I have to tap into the VTR mode it shuts off all the music but has the camera on if I wanted too.

always on doesn't work with the factory one, after 5 minutes it shuts it off

unless the shut off is in the mirror, then maybe you can have full time factory rear view camera (thatw ould be annoying)
