18.3 avg mpg

Thought I'd post, my last 2 tanks have averaged 18.3 MPG. That's down in Central Florida. Truck has about 7k miles on it and is stock; see signature. That's running A/C and driving it kind of hard in the city and some back country roads. I am pretty amazed. If I had been driving my F250 like this I would of been averaging about 10-12 mpg easily.

 

That's not bad at all. I'm typically 17-18 city/22-23 hwy so that's pretty good.

 

If I didn't get on it so much and pass people, run the a/c I bet I could do easily +1mpg.

 

Thats pretty good. Yes you shoudl easily be able to do another mpg. Before I did lift and tires I was averaging 20.5 and I consider myself a moderate lead foot.

 

I average 18.5 (according to Scangauge).

I consistently run about 20.5 MPG...but my daily commute is 114 miles round trip.............95% highway

 

It is good to know that you can drive it really easy, and get up over 20 MPG, or use it's full power, have to fill up a bit sooner... but at least you know you have that extra power when it is needed.

 

Generally I get about 18-19mpg for the type of driving I do (4.0L Auto Access cab). Nothing out of the ordinary, same 18mile round trip to work, a stop at the same grocery stores, same fitness club, etc. Rarely do we take long trips with it.

Obviously, the gas mixtures here change from season to season and that definately changes the mileage. I get my gas at the same place everytime.

On average according to my scangauge....In the winter months, I get about 16-17mpg. If there's an extended cold spell, my mileage will drop below 15mpg. So far this summer during the warmer temps, my scangauage has shown 19-20mpg.

My truck is like me....it doesn't like the cold weather!!!

Anytime I use the A/C for extended periods or warm the truck up in the winter - I'll discount that tank information because I know that's why the MPG are affected. I'm getting those average numbers listed above without any 'changes' in terms of my habits. Weird...

 

UPDATE. Filled up tonight and averaged 19.0 MPG!!! At least I'm headed the right direction. That's 18.3, 18.3 & 19.0 on the last 3 tanks. And this 19.0 was with a lot of A/C use, city driving and back country road driving; no actual "highway". I think the A/C needs to be broken in... I never started using it until about 1 month ago/6k.

Yeah, Jax is a huge Military area. A lot of the FL TTORA members reside in Jax.

 

I lived there before the military, almost got orders to MacDill.

 

What?!?! I just filled up my gas tank and according to my numbers I get 14.66 mpg. Is something wrong or does towing about 2000 pounds +or- kill it that bad.?

 

2k #'s... yeah that might be your problem dude. I'm riding empty. Me plus maybe wife. that's it. And a briefcase.

I'm only like 7,400 miles. It took me a solid 10-15k to break in my Diesel truck. I know someone that has a Honda Fit 5spd and even that crack box took about 10k to break in. Always been my experience... 10k (2 oil changes) is what it takes to get "good" mpg's.

 

I guess in the trucks defense I only drive around town, stop and go at each lawn and about 2/3 of the lawns I let it cool down with the a/c on for about 2 mins after each cut.

Wow, I just realized how much crap I do to kill my milage.

 

sounds like it. but it's for business reasons, so you could get a F650 and claim it as a company vehicle and just not worry about MPG.

 

That is right where I'm at also, very happy with it.

 

but around me gas is hiking back up, and nobody seems to be talking about it like before. $2.69/gal. That's nuts. I live pretty far out from stuff, so just to grab McD's it'll cost me about as much as the food. Messed up. Our Tacos should be doing much better.... the European diesel version of our trucks do like 33mpg/hwy. Huge difference.


A 3.0L Diesel stick shift Hilux gets 20.1/33.13 MPG. Messed up. That's 25% better in the city & 65% better on Hwy than us dude. I could live with those #'s. We are so getting screwed. We're going to be paying European fuel prices and driving USA MPG cars/trucks. What a combo.
