    I agree with Oz, it's stupid. :D

It never seizes to amaze me how the idiots that text and drive think they're the only idiots texting and driving. They don't seem to realize that anything can happen in the blink of an eye.

They are probably the same idiots who think they are professional drivers and that everybody else on the road is not.

I'm only 25 and I miss the days when people didn't worry about having a cell phone glued to their hand. Now-a-days people blow shit out of proportion if you take forever responding to a text.

Some people use texting as an excuse to say things they normally wouldn't say in person, must be the people who lack self confidence.

Yep I miss the good old days when people could have a conversation face to face or actually speaking on the phone instead of stupidly staring at the screen waiting for a response.

The amount of people that are completely ignorant to their surroundings because they have their face buried in the phones these days amazes me!

Woohooo I think I'll stop now.

And they're better drivers after a couple of beers or a couple of bong hits.

While I disagree with those that claim that talking on the phone is as bad as being at .08 BAC, between texting and high, I'd say it's a tossup, leaning toward texting being worse.

At least when you're driving high I assume people are actually looking at the road. I don't smoke, and I have stopped drinking, so I don't know :notsure:

So...distracted driving is worse then impaired driving? Distracted driving changes with a turn of the head...impaired driving either changes after a few hours, or doesn't change at all depending on how impaired you are and how far you're going.

Hmm well you're the one in the patrol car so I'm sure you see a lot of both. Why don't you enlighten us? :D

Both are stupid to begin with but I honestly wouldn't be able to say which causes more road accidents these days with out looking at some statistics.

This isn't a jab at you or anything just an honest question, but since you are on the road more than the general population, what is the greater stupidity, texting and driving, or driving while high?

That's like asking who's more retarded. The retard on the left or the retard on the right. I mean they're both retarded. Distracted and impaired driving are both bad. I lost 7 friends in high school because of both. It's not a win-lose debate.

    Ps. No offense to retards.

I keep my phone on vibrate/silent mode when driving because even the sound of a text can be distracting for that second you glance at your phone. There are so many times when I pull up alongside people buried in their phones. I always want to honk at them but I never do...

I won't lie, a cop is constantly in a state of distracted driving, there's radio traffic, CAD, messages, paying attention every other driver, Code driving, etc. We are constantly distracted yet with the amount of miles we put on our cars, the accident ratio is very low.

Distracted driving is not paying attention, which is dangerous, but it doesn't impair your response time, your mental ability or your physical ability to operate a motor vehicle. It doesn't impair sensory orientation to surroundings, but it does prevent you from noticing things right away...

A person listening to the radio extremely loud is distracted, a person with 3 kids under 5 is distracted, a person putting on make up or shaving is distracted.

The difference in my mind is the mental and physical impairment of high and DUI driving vs distracted driving.

It does depend on how intoxicated one is, someone who is sober texting vs someone who cant stand on their own after a night at the bar, of course the latter is worse.

But texting and driving is an all day thing I worry about. Drunks on the road are usually on my mind at night or early morning.

I also worry about actually stopping at stop signs living in cali due to so many people expecting others to "california roll" the bitch

But that is off topic :p
