has anyone messed with hyper sync ? i had a question...if i use a elinchrom ranger do i still need to have a pocket wizard tti for hyper sync to work or can i use my pluss II for this? or since the ranger has a faster flash duration will i still be able to achieve the same look? correct me if im wrong please. im totally new to hyper sync and using flashes for action sports.

The D5100 sounds interesting.... The D7000 would probably be too expensive for my taste. Then again I no absolutely nothing about photography so the D5100 might be overkill for me as well. :notsure:

Entry level DSLRs from Canon and Nikon are all pretty good, you just gotta do some research and compare specs and decide what sounds like what you would like. I sincerely like my 5100 but someday would like to bump up to a 7k or so for its weather proofing and better specs.

You can jump into the world of Full Frame cameras, which are much better, but for someone like me for whom this is just a hobby, I see no need to drop thousands of dollars on a camera that performs better than the crop sensors. I'm happy with having a higher end consumer camera and middle ground decent lenses, personally.

Look at what lens system you want to get into and then buy your camera around that. You're going to hear this lots, but it bears repeating. Bodies come and go, but good glass is forever. You really can't go wrong with Nikon or Canon. See which one you find better suits you and go with that. I'm a Canon buff and I like the layout better than the Nikons. Second, it doesn't matter how good the camera, the pictures taken are only ever as good as the tit behind the view finder.

Thanks, I'm leaning towards the Nikon D5100 with an 18-55mm lens... Not too expensive but not cheap either.

Not sure about the 18-55mm personally, but I love my 10-22mm on my Canon. Allows me to get nice and close without looking like I'm nice and close.

And then you can have fun like this...

Hope you're not scared of heights. :p

Hmm, I'll probably want something like that then. I really like close ups.

It doesn't give you close ups FYI. If you do you'll get fantastic barrel distortion. Now on some subjects that's not a problem. But for people you'll make them very goofy looking. It just lets you be closer than the camera belies.
