Quad vs dirtbike?!

Looking at getting 1 or the either. Leaning twards quad just seems easier to ride and less dangerous. Some advice would be much appreciated. Def thinking 4 stroke but not 100%. Carburated or fuel injected? Im leaning twards carb. Buddy has an 02 raptor 660 for 2k reg maintenanced and very low hours had quads for along time so he knows what hes doing but hes been and still doing some work on carb is this something i should be worried about? Any and all help and advice is appreciated!!

 

You will be happy with ether one, I love both dirt bikes and quads. I have yz250, yfz450r and full Mod CRF50.

Imo dirt bikes are safer, less weight to slam into your body. Iv'e crashed both. On quads I have broken My arm in 2 places, Broke right thumb, broke collar bone, cracked right hip, compressed vertibre and countless other sprains etc. On dirt bikes I've only fractured an ankle and a few sprains etc. But thats not prove that ether one is safer.

There both fun and they both have there pros and cons. Try riding each for a few hours and see witch one you would rather invest in first.

Saw this in a porta potti at the local mx park....... What's the worst thing about riding a quad? Telling your parents your gay!

 

If you search there are already a couple of threads with the pos and neg of each.

That being said if you are gunna ride in varying altitudes you will want fuel injected or you should know how to and be ok with changing the jetting for a carbureted quad every time you change significant altitude.

 

Trust me get a quad over a dirt bike! I would get the Honda trx450 it's a very nice quad, great torque and easy to build them and work on them if anything happens (parts are not that much) go on the trx450r.org fourms great place I am a member own couple trx450s... If you want a kick start get the 04/05 trx450 if you want electric start 06+

They are carb not fuel injected, carb is better for quads and dirt bikes. But trust me on getting a quad and a trx450! Once you get a quad you will never look back trust me on this one

 

About the raptor I would take a trx450 over the raptor any day! The trx450 will last you for while they don't just brake down quick as some quads do. The trx 450 is the fasted quad out there you can get, and has very good torque and topend, might be not the fasted stock but it is quick! But once you add a exhuast, intake, swap cams you already will be smoking most of the quads! TRX450 all the way!!!!!!!

Hey me too! Haha but I got a new cable sitting on the front seat of my truck, just have to get around to putting it on. Too cold lately, I don't wanna be outside messing with it until it warms up again. But I love my quad, 400ex is a awesome trail machine.

 

Bike is better across the board . . . for me.

Go ride both, a lot.

Then pick on your own experience because other's wont be yours.

 

If you decide on a quad, stay away from the 450's. They are set up for racing and require a little more attention. Also they dont have reverse. Ive had a KFX400, KFX700 and a Raptor 700. By for the Raptor is the best all around trail quad. Gobs of power and very fast.

 

it is better for quick, easy adjusting on the trail.

i got mine ordered a couple days before we left and it came the day before we left, we're still out of town though so i won't get it installed and be able to ride till at least the end of the week.

 

And FI is better because it requires no adjusting whatsoever.

My brother had a 2010 YX450f that he bought new and put almost 200 hours on without a single problem.

I've had lots of other friends with FI bikes and I've never heard of the fuel system going bad.

I've never owned one because I can't stand 4 strokes.

 

i'm not saying stay away from FI, it's just not my preference, if my carb fails its pretty easy to replace or rebuild.
i'm also not a fan of electrical on ATV's, the lights and ignition should be the only things electrical on a ATV IMO.
but i grew up riding a 85 honda 200x 3 wheeler, so you might view it differently.

i heard someone put traction control on a 4 wheeler

 

I just avoid quads in general

 

i have a quad and a bike. i rode bikes my whole life, wrecked, shattered my knee. hit a quad head on (his fault). after i got better i got a quad. missed the bike and got a wr450 a lil over a year ago. still have the quad tho for hunting.

if your scared of falling over get a quad. but keep in mind they flip too. and when you flip a quad it normally hurts worse than when you drop a bike.
