I thought about retapping it a size bigger. Chasing threads a bit better ? Never heard of it.

 

if running the same size tap through doesn't fix them good enough then yeah, drill it out. One of mine is all screwed up like that but it still holds ok, I just don't tighten it quite as much as the rest.

the boot's slid past the retention hump since it was so loose after it got put on, pulled the lip right over the first turn. can't get it back with how it is now...ive been trying for the last hour.

so I just hose clamped it there for now

 

yep. tried that. to get it back over I need to do more than just break the suction from the grease, I'd have to stretch the whole thing; can't do that without tearing it
