Hey guys, anybody with a ProComp DB running 18x9 wheels with a 5" back spacing?

ProComp says back spacing needs to be 4.0 to 4.65, so I emailed them to ask about 5 inch. They said it will absolutely not work and there will be severe rubbing. I test fitted a wheel (w/o tire) yesterday and everything was good, no rubbing with linkage, and actually better spacing than my current wheels. I think they will be fine, but of course it all depends on tire size...

So just curious... Anybody have 6" lift while running 18x9 wheels with a 5" back spacing? If so, tire size? Rubbing issues?

    Thanks a ton.

The 5" BS will clear the hardware fine but rub fenders more......kind of like my set up....4.5" BS plus 1.25" spacers......which is 5.75" total. When I hit big rocks or speed bumps with the wheels turned I rub pretty bad on the fenders & I have trimmed alot! I plan to eventually take off the pastic fenders & trim 4" off.

    PS....my tires are 315/75/16

This is all I had time to take this morning before work. I still have a few more little brakcets to put on and then get it aligned.

One major problem came about when I put the rims back on the truck. The driver side cleared the tie rod with about a 1/2" but the passenger side was hitting. I grinded the tie rod to make the wheel fit but my only guess is that the casting is different between each spindle.

Thanks Chris. I'm most concerned with the inside edge of the tire hitting the hardware, swaybar, etc. under full lock. Thinking that extra 1/2 inch of backspacing shouldn't be too much of a problem. And if I go with 295/70r18 it should help limit rubbing compared to a 315 or 325 tire.

    Anybody else have any input?

Actually you have 3.25 bs with the spacers. You don't add the numbers together you subtract them. Back spacing is measures from the inside lip of your wheel to where the hub touches. There for if you at a 1.25 wheel spacer to a wheel that has 4.50 bs then you will get 3.25"~ from the lip of the wheel to the hub contact. So a 5" bs wheel won't work with that lift

Alcan called me back today. Shipping from Colorado to phoenix was no more than 80. So 680 for the set shipped to your door.

I have no doubt that this is the correct way to formulate backspacing yet it dosen't really make a whole lot of sense to me. You would think the Gods of wheel manufacturing would add the numbers instead of subtracting. Because we technically increase backspacing by adding spacers (moving the wheel outward)....so the # should be bigger instead of smaller. :annoyed: Unfortunatly, even at 40+ years old, I continue to learn something new every day.

I fried my brain a little on that concept thinking I spent 100 dollars on wheel spacers I didn't need to run 16' on the BDS kit.

Oh no problem I learned this also myself. I just didn't want somebody to buy the wrong wheels abd then have to buy spacers or have to return them. I'm happy that I could assist you on learning something new. I learn new stuff almost everyday. But then again I can't know enough about everything

Its rides a little smoother since I had to crank the coil overs down but will be better once I get rid of these old tires

Concern for any Pro Comp lift guys:

The ABS/Brake lines in the front seem kind of tight even though I used the drop brackets and removed the upper ABS bracket. Also when turning the ABS/Brake lines rub the bump stop drop bracket too.

I am buying new front brake lines this week but not sure what to do about the ABS lines.
