If you have an iPhone. There is and app called, Oh Ranger! I think that will search all state parks atleast. They are nice to camp at also.

I should add a couple of tips for making campground reservations as well. If it's near a highway, try to get a spot in the back so you don't hear passing traffic. Also, it might seem nice to be near the crapper, but if you're too close, you'll be hearing the outhouse door banging all night. If there's a water spigot, it's nice to be near it if you're going to be there for a while. Carrying even a 5-gal solar shower bag 100 yds up a hill sucks.

As it's already the middle of March, many of the better campgrounds are already starting to fill up for the summer--especially for holiday weekends, so it's definitely not too early to start making plans.

If you're going to be in a campground then you won't need a fire permit, but if you're camping elsewhere, you will. Here's a link to getting a permit online-

Right around 6k loaded. I still have not actually weighed it yet. Maybe before my first trip this year.

Was down in Los Padres National Forest - hitting some ridge trails.

 

I like Los Padres NF, where were you?

 

up around prewitt ridge and 3 peaks. was a beautiful weekend and weather was great

Great area for sure, I like camping up there, you did get some killer weather. I was doing taco mods

 

Are there places to shoot on the ocean side of Los Padres? Just targets, maybe some squirrel shooting? I've often gone to the other side towards the valley near Fort Hunter Ligget but never explored the coast side.

 

yes. as long as you have a good back drop you are fine. this time we just did some .22 plinking since ammo is such an $$$ commodity right now.
