One's an 04 (102k miles, V6, 4dr, 2wd, non TRD), and one is an 03 (198k miles, V6, 2dr ext, 4wd, non TRD). Check the links out for more info.

so i dont mean to ask dumb questions. but everyone i talk to about doing a 4wd swap says im better off doing a SAS. why? and when i say why, i mean is it easier to convert to 4wd that way? and is a SAS better off road than our IFS?

 

on the first gens, i'd say its easier to do a ifs swap sicne its all just plug and play and no fabricating and it would probably be cheaper to do a ifs swap. some people have gotten the swap done for less than 2 grand. for a real good solid front axle, its going to cost just that for the front axle unless u can find a damn good deal

and yes, sas is way better off road than ifs.

i know barry is well under 2k for his swap and the few parts he has left to do shouldnt take him over 2k

 

i gotcha. i know on the 2nd gens its harder with the electronic shifting and all that cool technology stuff lol, and afroman down in NC did his recently for below 2k as well. but why is a SAS so much better than IFS? just dont see why IFS can't do what a solid axle can. is it because of components in the front axle like the locker and what not? or they way a SAS flexes?

i see . thanks mathis! probably will stick with IFS though i guess when i decide to dump money into a 4wd swap. unless im doing real well off one day and decide i have even more money to blow on nothing better.

 

im not persuading y ou to not go sas, but i do believe IFS with first gens, it will be easier/cheaper

if i had the money, i'd cut what i have on the front end off and sas the shit out of it, but until i hit the lotto or just making supid amount of money, im content with what i got

 

exactly what i'm saying. im gonna most likely be able to do everything i need/want to do with the ifs and its also gonna be easier and more affordable. sas would be nice, but do i really NEED it? probably not.

I got my front diff cv's spindles and manual hubs for 800 from a member on here

 

only difference between trd and not is the shocks so yeah should be fine! but im broke as hell especially having to buy my tires this summer. but well see where i stand. let me know chris!
