mossberg 715t built up a little bit. cant decide whether to remove the irons all together, get 45* canted sights, or get raised see-through sights higher than the 1" ones i have on there...

This rifle has an identity crisis. Figure out what you want the rifle to do and then select your accessories based on that goal. Don't take this the wrong way but it looks like you went through the Brownells Catalog and ordered whatever was on sale. The scope, rings and sights don't work together. I wouldn't run a bipod AND a VFG and both of which are too far back. And please, for the love of god, tell me that is NOT a fake suppressor.

i know it's crazy as it sits b/c i havent figured out what i want to do w/ it. the reason the fore grip and bipod are sitting so far back is due to the movement of the sling. when i get to shoot, they'll get moved up. when i decide to blow $100+ on a GI grip/bipod i'll get one. it's going to be a multipurpose weapon, so that's why i've got different things on there. that's why i'm leaning towards the higer mounts in order to bring the scope back some and still be able to use the iron sights as a backup.

Just run another sling attachment point further back for the front of the sling. I've had Gripods too and I've found that they're too clunky and don't do either one very well. If I were you I would look at doing some MBUS (inexpensive, light and work well) for backups, do a Burris PEPR mount or similar to keep your optic mounted to your upper receiver rail (although with the size of the body on that optic you may have a hard time getting something to work). I wouldn't put that thing on real high rings to clear those sights because you will be putting your glass higher over bore than it needs to be to do something none of those accessories were designed for. It's generally considered a bad idea to span the d-ring like that. If it were me I would run a bipod up towards the front and then just hold the rifle by the rail with a forward, thumbs over grip if you need to shoot off-hand. Also, lose the fake suppressor or those in-the-know will clown you.

definitely looking to change some things. dont know how much i plan to put into it since it's only a $280 rifle. the iron sights on there now were stock w/ the gun, so nothing nice. i'll wait to spend the dough for nice products when i do a 223/556 build. this is just something to tinker with for plinking and possibly use for squirrels.

I would get one of these
    http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-M-223-7...qid=1364302451&sr=8-1&keywords=nikon+ar+mount

Its a cantelever scope mount. That way you keep the scope on the upper reciever and off of the rail. ditch the irons and grip and you should be good to go.

maybe add a magpul sling mount and place it up closer to the reciever.
    http://www.amazon.com/Magpul-Rail-S...1364302552&sr=1-1&keywords=magpul+sling+mount

The gun would look and function much better this way

i like that scope mount, but that thing is 1/4 of the price of the gun. i think i'll just remove the iron sights, drop the scope back, and go from there. see about removing that forward sling mount and add one further back to not be in the way of the bipod. i dont plan on shooting any more than 100yds w/ this .22.

    I paid $135 for the original 10/22 around 1998.

    $110 barrel
    $65 scope
    $100 stock
    $45 for base and rings
    Meh

If your goal is 100yds and in I would ditch the glass and rings all together. Just run the irons and be done with it. You're going to have a hard time getting proper eye relief on that optic with those rings all the way back.

Don't think of everything you do as relation to the price of the rifle itself. Going about it this way will assure that you don't properly equip your rifle for use. On a couple of my bolt rifles I've got glass that cost MORE than the rifle but that's what that use calls for. Here's my M&P15-22 and it was free because I won it so if I based me accessories on that fact I sure as shit wouldn't have a $500 optic on it.

optics are a different ball game. i've got a leupold scope on my .270 that's probably worth more than it as well.

Then by your own admission you understand how important function is over cost comparison. Fifty to sixty bucks for a mount to make the whole package function properly isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Hell, if you ever shoot that thing you'll burn through that much $ in a day of shooting especially at today's prices. On my competition rifles I run Schmidt & Bender or USOptic glass and people say those are expensive but compared to how much I spend on ammo components and competing for a season including traveling and expenses it's a drop in the bucket to have the proper tools for the task at hand.

NICE! How is the barrel quality? Very much pitting any where? I love mine and they are a blast to shoot. I did a competition shoot with mine at our local gun club and took first with it last year. You'll love it for sure.

yessir its a cmp service grade, has a muzzle reading of 1 and a throat reading of 2 and visually seems great and not much if any pitting, has all springfield marked parts most of em mid-late ww2 era, cant wait to take it out to the range ive heard only good things about em and its not really hard to order one from cmp, just print and fill out the info they need and mail it in and your good to go, only hard part is waitin 2-3 months for it to come in (ordered it back in mid jan) but def worth the wait although think they've temp stopped orders for springfields cause of the backlogging of orders they've been gettin lately
