S video cable

I am wanting to hook my computer up to my tv and use the TV as my monitor! Does anyone have an idea as to how to do this?? I have a dell laptop!

 

If its a newer tv there is a chance that it has the input for the monitor which is easy because you just use a plug for the monitor like you would on a desktop computer. If not then I believe you still use the monitor cord from the computer but there is an adaptor that coverts it into the yellow video cable like you were going to hook up a dvd player.

What kind of TV is it? It may not display your output from the computer properly because of different resolutions of the TV compared to your computer.

^^ what they said. I have a 26" HD LCD vizio and run my laptop through it sometimes, esp to watch a DVD or somthin. works good once you figure out the settings.

 

You misread my question, I wasn't asking you what brand it was. Is it an LCD, plasma etc. But by your answer I assume it's an old school TV then.

 

Pending upon the inputs available on your computer and tv. For example, I used an s-video cable to do this. Or I have used an s-video to RCA to do this task also. Some newer graphics cards or laptops also allow for hdmi to be used also. Its very possible to do. I use this to watch movies or play games on my larger tv. However when it comes to text it can get rather fudged due to the differences in how the computer monitor and tv perform.
