10w30 oil, good or bad

I know how easy it is to change my own oil but i had it changed at the express place down the road from my house. Not even thinking about it, until later on of course, they put 10w30 instead of 5w20, will this hurt my taco or will it even matter. The guy at express lube said it wouldnt matter, but what does he know. I really wished he would have asked before they just did it, but anyways. Will it hurt anything??

first off the oil that most of our trucks calls for is 5w30 so 10w30 is just alittle thicker, since its summer time it should not be a problem

 

still makes me mad, sort of that they just assumed

 

now that uve learned your lesson, DO IT YOURSELF, its really easy and cheaper and you dont have to worry about people that have not a clue what theyre doing

 

or you can buy the right oil, BETTER OIL, and have someone do it for you and watch them or like burgman said, DIY

 

true that, didnt think of them changing it and our trucks sit high enough to get under them no jack. i do it in my backyard, just need a catch pan and a wrench

 

10w30 was always the standard. most auto manf went 5w30 for gas mileage reasons. 10w30 is fine. No need to worry. Back in the day they ran 20/50 in the summer and 10/30 in the winter. read your owners manual. It says right in there that if 5/30 is not available 10/30 will do.

 

you should be changing your own oil, and using synthetic.

X2. I would think your truck should be fine with the 10w 30 for now and just swap it back to some 5w 30 on your next oil change that "you" are going to do!

 

If ive only used regular oil, can i switch now or do i just have to stick with the regular. I have 60,000 miles???

Don't worry they only use the absolute cheepist oil made at sleazzy lubes.
Cheapo 10-30 or cheapo 5-30 makes little differnce.

I am skeerd to even drive by those places.
Change it yourself next chance you get and get the piece of mind that goes along with a quality job and good products installed right.

You can switch back - synthetics and conventional oils are cross compatible according to the manufacturers.

 

I dont know who in their right mind would switch BACK to Dino oil after using synthetics....

 

VVT-i, or Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, is an automobile variable valve timing technology developed by Toyota, similar in performance to the BMW's VANOS. The Toyota VVT-i system replaces the Toyota VVT offered starting in 1991 on the 5-valve per cylinder 4A-GE engine. The VVT system is a 2-stage hydraulically controlled cam phasing system.
VVT-i, introduced in 1996, varies the timing of the intake valves by adjusting the relationship between the camshaft drive (belt, scissor-gear or chain) and intake camshaft. Engine oil pressure is applied to an actuator to adjust the camshaft position.
