I would stick to 9mm, .40, or .45 for ammo. It's still somewhat easy to find at the moment. I saw some 10mm and 357sig for roughly a buck a round this weekend.

with the way ammo is going right now i would be weary getting an odd round like 357 sig. ammo for it is hard enough to find before the scare, i would bet its damn near impossible now.

    thats my 2 cents.

I'm not having a hard time finding 9mm or 40... It's coughing up the dough for the mark up I can't do...

I'm actually buying my next bolt gun on the availablilty of ammo at Walmart. I've decided on a 300 win mag... Only ammo I keep seeing at Walmart.

not as many manufacturers make it, where tons make 9mm etc.. catch my drift? I was looking at 357 sig for my first gun but lack of ammo turned me off. might just be around this area but i couldnt find much.

I am going to recommend 2 guns here, both of them are metal guns, no polymer. I own 9mm versions of these guns and can vouch for their quality.
Tanfoglio Witness - you can get this in 9mm, .45, or 10mm Ave. cost of these are 3-500.00.
CZ75b - you can get these in 9mm(most common), .40(easy to get round now) ave cost 450-500.00.

I am a big 1911 fan. I have a Springfield with a 4" barrel. It's small enough for my to conceal but still long enough to enjoy shooting all the time. I would go 1911. My second choice would be a glock or XD in a .40cal

I didn't even think about a CZ, I have a cz 452 varmint in 17 hmr and I love it, I now have to add a CZ to my list of things to look at, I like the .40 because of ammo availibility....and besides, once the next panic hits, I'll be reloading and it won't matter, but if I compare this panic and last panic, there is plenty of .380 this time and there was very little last time, I'd say there will be a run on 4.0 sooner or later.

oh, and does anyone have a Jericho 9mm?

I shot one a couple range trips back, and thought it shot wonderfully....to a point where I want to get one lol

CZ 75B's are great guns.. I love mine. Over 2000 rounds in 2 years, and not a single malfunction.

A Jericho is basically a CZ clone. Just made in Israel.

I'd recommend a sig 225 in those mix, a shop by me has one for 519. It's in good condition. A tad bit high but someone out there wants it...

I have a Magnum Research Baby Eagle 9mm, which is essentially the same thing and it was good for a while. But after shooting a few thousand rounds it started jamming pretty regularly until I was not comfortable keeping it as a home HD gun so I retired it. So I would not recommend it

sure that would be great if you have a friend instructor! what you need to decide is what fits your hands ergonomically and also fits your intended use/style...

for concealment, keep in mind that hammer spurs and large beavertails can easily snag on your cover garment when drawing... there are a few "techniques" for pulling or sweeping cover garments out of the way, but there's still always a change something will get hung up... so, if you like revolvers, ..perhaps consider a hammerless one (i.e. no exposed hammer)... for pistols, i'd go for a compact or fullsize polymer gun (glock, M&P, XD, Sig, etc..)... for pistols you'll have to decide on function: do you want a thumb safety, or no safety? barrell length? desired capacity? double or single stack mag?

... i've never shot anything in .357SIG, ..it's still kinda an exotic round and isn't very prolific as far as i know... it tends to be quite a bit more expensive than say 9mm, .40, and .45ACP... basically it is a "hot" 9mm round, ...same diameter, but in a necked down .40 case...

I need to get a 1911 refinished now that I've installed a loop hammer and beavertail safety. Anyone know a good refinisher with decent prices? I guess I want a repark but I would consider something like melonite. Not intereseted in a painted or baked on finish.

Traded my bow this evening for a Benelli Nova Pump. 3 1/2" chamber, 24" barrel :D:D:D:D The finish is not the greatest but the action and trigger are crisp! I will get better pictures later. I am thinking of either Cerakote or hydrodipping it, not sure yet.

That's good to hear! Hopefully I will get some good use out of mine. I'm gonna order a hydro dip kit here soon in mossy oak shadow grass or duck blind.
